  • Scenic and spacious site with private woodland to explore
  • A 15-minute drive to Canterbury Cathedral and Dover
  • Dogs, campfires and barbecues welcome; walks straight from the site
Get set for time well spent in Kent – scenic seven-acre site Coxhill Camping is an excellent pick for folk looking to relax and/or explore. The grass pitches at this working arable farm are surrounded by mature trees, and there’s a rather fine 10 acres of private woodland attached to the site – with direct access making it easy for guests to explore. It’s a friendly place: families, couples, solo travellers and dogs are all welcome, and it’s a pick-your-own-pitch setup so you can choose the spot you most like the look of. Whichever one you choose, there’s plenty of space to spread out and to play games if you like. This is a particularly good spot for walkers, as there are paths running straight from the site and the local village of Shepherdswell is on the North Downs Way (also making this a good stopover option for those taking on the whole trail…). Other days out nearby might take you to Canterbury (including Canterbury Cathedral), to the White Cliffs of Dover or to the beach – all are within a 15-minute drive. And that proximity to Dover also means that this is a handy spot for those needing an overnight stay before/after a ferry journey; the port is a 20-minute drive from the site. As for facilities, there are firepits to hire (with logs and kindling for sale) and you’ll have access to well-maintained flushing toilets, showers, a cold-water washing-up area, drinking water taps and grey waste/chemical disposal points. Shepherdswell, under a mile away, has a pub, shop and playground as well as a train station for mainline services (to Dover, Canterbury and London) and heritage rides on the East Kent Railway (the station also has a café).

What customers say

This campsite offers a peaceful rural escape with a focus on simplicity and cleanliness. Visitors praise the friendly welcome, spacious pitches, and exceptionally clean, modern toilet and shower facilities. Its location is ideal for ferry and Eurotunnel crossings, as well as exploring Kent. While basic, the site is well-maintained and offers good value. Some guests noted road noise and a lack of hot water for dishwashing, but overall, feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with many planning return visits.

Top Field non-electric grass pitch

Liked Top marks for coxhill camping. Nestled away on a farm in Kent this campsite is perfect for those seeking peace and quiet. A stones throw away from the A2, for those towing a caravan you don't have to worry about getting caught on rural single track roads, access is very very easy. A very relaxed campsite, those on the main field can pretty much pick where to pitchup, I highly recommend pitching up right in the centre of the field facing the west, there's a gap between the trees adjacent to the shower blocks where you will be treated to the longest views of the sunset. Although I was self contained I did have a look at the shower, toilet and washing up facilities and all appeared to be impeccable. The onsite warden Haydn is an absolute superstar, he'll give you a warm welcome on your arrival and is never far away should you need advice, recommendations or assistance. Will definitely be returning.

The Menage electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful and clean site. We arrived late so we went to the late arrivals pitches. It was clearly sign posted and very easy to find. We had the whole area to ourselves. Showers in the morning were spacious and clean. Will stay again.

The Menage electric grass pitch

Liked A lovely quiet site with a very friendly welcome. Facilities were basic but very clean and pitches were very big. Really good value for money and with no restrictions on departure times, and a separate area for arrivals after 10pm, this makes it an excellent choice for travellers heading to or from Dover docks.

Disliked Just a good to know, not all pitches are level, especially in the late arrival area so levelling ramps would be a must for vans.

Local attractions

Getting out into Kentish countryside is easy, beginning with a historical sort of trip from Shepherdswell station 10 minutes' walk away. This is a stop on the East Kent Railway, a heritage railway that will shuttle you through the Golgotha Tunnel and Kent countryside. Of course, it’s likely you’ll want to see Dover Castle and the White Cliffs (15 minutes' drive). Margate (35 minutes) is another popular pit stop, with vintage rides at Dreamland as well as the buzzy beachfront. St Margarets Bay (15 minutes) is quieter, but just as splendid. Those of you familiar with the Canterbury Tales – or, in fact, anyone wanting to do a bit of sightseeing – should head to Canterbury (15 minutes) too. Other cool spots? Driving diggers at Diggerland Kent (45 minutes) is high up there. Wingham Wildlife Park (20 minutes) too, especially if you’re an animal fan. Once a favourite haunt of smugglers, and now well suited to those who like the smaller seaside town vibes, is Deal (20 minutes).
