  • Stay in the Weald of Kent next to Bedgebury Forest
  • Scotney Castle 10 minutes' drive; Hastings half an hour
  • Direct access to walking trails and single-track mountain bike routes
Lots of greenery for privacy, natural vibes and a small number of pitches are part of the deal at Stay at Forest Edge, a relaxing wooded site in a peaceful part of South East England. This small-scale site fits snugly into the landscape of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, roughly half an hour's drive from the coast. So, settle down in the Weald of Kent next to Bedgebury Forest and get cosy… As far as amenities go, Stay at Forest Edge has a good all-round set-up, with hot shower facilities and a proper flushing toilet on site. There is also a small shared fridge for food storage, plus a sink where there's space for washing up. A covered dining area is on hand in case of adverse weather, and barbecues and firepits are available for cookouts too. Stay at Forest Edge is just over the road from a brewery and tap room, while outdoor activities like walking routes and single-track mountain bike trails can be reached directly from site. This spot is about five minutes' from Goudhurst, where there are lots of amenities, but is a little bit closer to the village of Flimwell, where there is a pub, an ice cream parlour and a café.

Yeoman shepherd's hut

Liked: The shepherds was beautiful in beautiful peaceful surroundings. Helen was very inviting and showed us round. The homemade cake, marshmallows and apple juice were special added touches which made our stay even more special. Everything was well kitted out and very clean. The beds were very comfy with the right amount of covers . The outside area with campfire was lovely and the kids loved toasting their marshmallows aswell as playing in the lovely outside area. The bbq and lights were perfect too.The site is right next to bedgebury forest so perfect for exploring. Helen was very kind and walked us up to the gate to we could find it easier. Added bonus of a car charger which was perfect for us as we have an electric car. We made some wonderful family memories here.

Disliked: Upon arrival we were told that car charging was free from 9-5, Helen was lovely and said that we could leave our car on site on our last day if we wanted to explore the forest, as long as we were out the hut. We ensured we were out the hut by 10am on our last day but were told by an elderly lady that leaving our car there would require us to pay for the electric we had used to charge the car (one hour) and a charge for parking. This was completely different to what we had been told when we arrived and left us feeling rather uncomfortable and confused aswell as put a downer on our stay and our day. We loved our stay so much that we wanted to give 5 stars but unfortunately due to the last minute additional charges which felt like money grabbing we have given 4.

Yeoman shepherd's hut

Liked: Forest Edge glamming was wonderful. We stayed two nights in the shepherds hut which was brilliant, really cosy and comfortable and well kitted out. We received a lovely welcome including a very tasty freshly baked cake! The fire pit and BBQ area was great and it felt very special sitting around the fire toasting marshmallows and being away from the city. Thank you so much.

Yeoman shepherd's hut

Liked: Stayed in the Sheppards Hut. Just wonderful, our third visit which should say it all! Welcoming hosts, home comforts but with the option to cook outside, bbq and a camp fire all within peaceful wooded surroundings. Many small touches really made our stay and even after our third visit it was still as memorable as the first. Facilities are excellent and very clean. A perfect retreat away will all the outdoor activities you could ask for in Bedgebury Forest which is a short walk from the Hut. A local brewery to unwind after a long day which has a pop up food van (We have used the taco van which is just amazing!) Thank you again for such a lovely time and we are sure to return again!

Local attractions

Get on your best monkey impression, because Go Ape is just a few minutes’ walk away, and once there, you’ll soon be swinging across the obstacle courses up in the treetops. It’s only a few minutes’ walk to get to another place of interest, although you might want to time a tour around this place for a different day, as Cellar Head Brewery is a microbrewery with a taproom and some tasty alcoholic brews. It's easy to take yourself on a tour of all the local castles around this site. There are many handsome patches for a picnic on the grounds of Scotney Castle (10 minutes' drive), a very historic walk around the 14th-century Bodiam Castle (15 minutes) or an orchard, rose garden and moat to take in around Sissinghurst Castle Garden (20 minutes). Hole Park Estate (20 minutes) has some more splendid gardens, but for your fill of the sand and sea, head over to Camber Sands (40 minutes) for dunes, donkey rides and windsurfing or Hastings (half an hour) for the historic town, funicular and seafront.
