  • Peaceful family-run campsite 20 minutes’ drive from Ashford in Kent
  • Sissinghurst Castle Garden 20 minutes’ drive; Port Lympne half an hour
  • Horses on site; fishing available; two pubs within 25 minutes’ walk
When your idea of heaven is wild camping in the quiet Kent countryside, Wildside Camping and Glamping may be just the place for you. With level camping fields sheltered by mature trees and toilets and showers in the way of facilities, the site is on a family-run farm on the outskirts of pretty Bethersden village, easily accessible from Ashford (20 minutes’ drive) and all its amenities. Rural surroundings include acres of fields with horses grazing in them, and plenty of woodland for hikes. If you get lucky, you might see wild deer on your escapades – and keen anglers can hotfoot it down to the fishing lakes opposite the camping field (extra costs involved) to try their luck with the trout. Once you’ve settled in on site, you can pre-book packed lunch or tea and cakes to keep the wolves at bay, and while barbecues are allowed, please ensure they are put on bricks (which can be collected by the gate) and don’t dispose of them while they are hot. Alternatively, if you’d rather someone else did the cooking, there are a couple of gastro-pubs in Bethersden (both within 25 minutes’ walk). As this is such a peaceful spot, the owners ask that there is no amplified music so you don’t spoil the vibe for other campers.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We loved the space available at Wildside Camping and had a warm welcome when we arrived. Although we camped out of season, it was clear that a happy summer had been had at this lovely little site. There were outdoor games for families and a giant fire pit for people to share as well as the offer of smaller fire baskets.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great, simple, quiet campsite. It has two toilets and showers, but we were told, there will be more to come soon, as the site just opened last month. The hosts were very friendly, and offered us tea, coffee, cake as well as tips where to go, eat etc. Just a field, but it has nice old trees around and there are also some children games. Exactly the right spot for someone who is after just a quiet campsite.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The owners of this site are so friendly, welcoming and helpful! The toilet and showers are really super clean and the toilets have a large and small toilet seat for the little ones, it’s the little things that make it easier when travelling with small children! We had a fire pit on the evening with marshmallows (charged as extra but completely reasonably priced, if anything a bargain!) and then pancake mix delivered in the morning. We ordered packed lunches for the next day which were so tasty and we were given a choice of filling, crisp flavour, fruit (again, charged as extra but also so reasonable). The site also has some games for the children (large connect 4, bat & ball etc) For what you get here, it’s definitely value for money and nothing is too much for the owners.

Liked: Amazing staff, so lovely and accommodating. Much more than just a tent pitch - lovely warm showers, a fire pit, swing ball and more. Anything you’d forgotten could be taken care of by the lovely owner Hannah and her partner
