General

  • Rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch
  • Heated pool, kids' club, amusements centre and adventure playground
  • Family restaurant, entertainment venue and bar with Sky TV

Feeling a bit snarly? Nerves increasingly gnarly? We prescribe a trip to Marlie.

Laidback Marlie Holiday Park sits in a lovely rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch, on the Kent coast. With a generous sprinkling of fluffy bunnies, a heated indoor swimming pool, and plenty more stuff to keep the kids entertained, it could be just what the doctor ordered to restore your sense of calm and equilibrium...

Younger campers will enjoy the fun sessions in the Loopy kids' club, the indoor pool, amusements centre and adventure playground, plus of course all the general romping about in the fresh air (arm them with a few carrots and send them off to make friends with the resident rabbits).

If you want a break from the cooking, the park has a decent family restaurant; there’s also a bar with Sky TV, and an adjacent entertainment venue where you can let your hair down with a dance and singalong in the evenings.

You can relax in the knowledge that all the basics are covered, too: smartly refurbished showers and loos; a shop (as well a big supermarket just minutes up the road); a launderette; and free wifi in the clubhouse.

There, you’re feeling better already, aren’t you?

After booking in we were told to watch items as there was currently a spate of stealing. Toilets were flooded and muddy. Travellers there on long stay pitches, with five terriers tethered outside to portable kennels day and night! Dogs constantly barking and all through the night so we were shattered with no sleep. Abandoned stay after getting refund from staff who were pleasant.Travellers appeared to be doing work for the site. Where is the sight supervision and Security? Will never return.

We had a great time, and our grand children children of 6 & 4 loved it.

    Disliked:

The problem came at bed time, there where four caravans of tinkers/travelers on site, they were very noisy and intimidating, shouting and playing music very loud through the night, finally going to bed about 4am, in the morning we got up to discarded cans, and the toilets where a mess, if I come again, which I hope to, and there are tinkers/travelers on site, I will be asking for a full refund and go elsewhere.

I am sorry to say this as my grand children loved it as did we, and without the above problem we could definitely become regular

The travelers Are there on long stay pitchs witch didn't bother me at first but the unloading of scrap every night got to much
You have to book to use the pool if you can call it that I have seen bigger paddling pools we went to the pool as a family and came back to the tent open and stuff moved so for the rest of the time there we couldn't all leave the tent
I took my boy to the park and he took on look and said can we go back to the tent

Staff tried but must be so demoralising for them.they pitched us as far from travelling people as possible.0

A welcome pack with details would have helped with info and with contact details . Filthy facilities faeces in shower, showers were blocked Elsan point was blocked, fresh water taps had no connections or small hose for water also drain near water point clogged with tissues. The wc was dirty and the shower room was like a ice rink, the young lifeguards had little English they had no control over the rowdy crowd.we were disappointed that the reception shut at 5 and the swimming pool shutbearly was. Shut on ThursdayWe got to use the pool once as we did not know there was a booking system (in a welcome pack ) we have used these holidays before and there was better facilities better management and clean. We were very disappointed as we had emailed about previous reviews on here before we went. The meals was expensive and not good quality. If we knew the site was going to be like this we would not have come, but we gave you the benefit of the doubt and was let down. This puts Park holidays to shame.

Handy having a shop, chose location due to having a swimming pool which was lovely and warm. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Pool table had missing balls. Evening entertainment was a bit loud and young for us and other bar had perpetual football on. Pool had to be booked in advance and 45 min session was a bit short for us. Toilets ran out of soap and loo roll in early evening. Play area was too far from pitches.

Local attractions

Buckets and spades are go, with a range of good beaches on the doorstep; try Littlestone and Dymchurch, or Camber Sands a little further away. You’ll spot the steam engines of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway running along the waterfront; don’t miss a trip on this historic miniature railway, one of the best ways to explore the area.

Golfers don’t need to travel far to get a round in: the Littlestone Golf Course is right next door to Marlie Holiday Park.

Other sporting pursuits on offer include excellent fishing at the Wylands Angling Centre, where there are an amazing ten lakes to choose from; and a wide range of watersports, both on the nearby beaches and at a specially-designed lake just inland (sand yachting, wakeboarding, jet skiing and more).

Whatever your ages and stages, there’s no shortage of inspiration for a family outing. Twenty minutes up the road is the brilliant Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, where you can bump along through herds of African wildlife in a safari truck and get up close to the gorillas in the 'Palace of the Apes'; you’ll also see rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers and lots of other ferocious beasts.

Alternatively, you could go for a day out in Dover, to explore the White Cliffs and historic Dover Castle; a sedate saunter around spectacular Leeds Castle, potentially offset with an adrenaline-boosting high ropes adventure at the neighbouring Go Ape! centre; a tastebud-tickling trip to the Biddenden Vineyard and Cider Works; a walk down memory lane at Yesterday’s World; or a fun-filled foray to the fantastic Hop Farm near Maidstone.

Better book for two weeks, then...
