General

  • Rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch
  • Heated pool, kids' club, amusements centre and adventure playground
  • Family restaurant, entertainment venue and bar with Sky TV

Feeling a bit snarly? Nerves increasingly gnarly? We prescribe a trip to Marlie.

Laidback Marlie Holiday Park sits in a lovely rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch, on the Kent coast. With a generous sprinkling of fluffy bunnies, a heated indoor swimming pool, and plenty more stuff to keep the kids entertained, it could be just what the doctor ordered to restore your sense of calm and equilibrium...

Younger campers will enjoy the fun sessions in the Loopy kids' club, the indoor pool, amusements centre and adventure playground, plus of course all the general romping about in the fresh air (arm them with a few carrots and send them off to make friends with the resident rabbits).

If you want a break from the cooking, the park has a decent family restaurant; there’s also a bar with Sky TV, and an adjacent entertainment venue where you can let your hair down with a dance and singalong in the evenings.

You can relax in the knowledge that all the basics are covered, too: smartly refurbished showers and loos; a shop (as well a big supermarket just minutes up the road); a launderette; and free wifi in the clubhouse.

There, you’re feeling better already, aren’t you?

Arrived to find out allocated pitch in use. Told by shop (reception closed earlier than stated on booking details!) nothing they could do just park anywhere else. Unacceptable after a 7 hour drive as did not wish to set up on some else’s pitch. Security advised us to park by the toilet waste disposal which is situated in the middle of the touring field and stank. Emailed customer service very unhelpful and would not offer refund for unpleasant stay (had no option to find alternative as booked on early tunnel crossing). Avoid this campsite. Noisy guests and dirty toilets too.

Check in was easy, Site was fine, lots of regular campers who have more permanent pithes but they were very friendly and easy to talk to. Small site, the staff are all friendly and liked to chat, clubhouse good with nice clean facilities, drink prices average. Close to amenities and things to do for the kids. Felt safe and kids wandered off to toilet block alone during the day and were able to play freely. Second day was a wash out but there is a launderette on site to get everything dried, 99 mins dry time for £4 and worked perfectly. There are bigger and more attractive looking sites out there but you pay the price for these, this site is perfect for a few nights cheap touring or for a short getaway and for those who don’t like large busy sites.

    Disliked:

Toilet blocks were disgusting, this is mainly due you two things, 1- the blocks are only cleaned during the morning and not at night and 2- bad parenting! I watched as kids were allowed to run riot with no consequence, this also brings me on to the travellers, it was their kids causing the grief with no parental guidance. There was only one traveller family I noticed but the kids were a bit of a nuisance, the family had a van and were in and out countless times day and night and were not really driving particularly safely, however all in all they didn’t cause us any problems. One family across the way were loud and partying into the early hours before another camper promptly told them to think about their fellow campers, they quietened down about half hour later. The swimming pool although didn’t seem busy to me had only half hour slots at a time which is not really long enough to keep kids occupied, an hour at least would have been better and was closed on day two due to “unforeseen circumstances”

Great camping, kind staff, worth going 31/08/2018

The swimming pool was very warn and nice but is small and the 30 mins session is not a long wait if you haven't booked for the afternoon. The mornings you can just arrive at any time wich is great. The people in the swimming pool are very kind, sweet and reasonable though, we had a great time.
The entertainment is ok, my son doesn't like but I'm sure others did. The restaurant is very new, clean and the food is amazing but a bit expensive (worth it). Staff are all very nice and kind everywhere. My son loved the playground. In general we had an amazing time there and would easily come back.

    Disliked:

I disliked my noisy tent neighbours. They left late at night for the pub and arrived even later when I was already asleep (waking me up) after 12am, shoulting at their kids, swearing so much, being rude to the poor kids... their var radio was loud and on till after 3am which I think disgracefully disrespectfu and unconsideratel with all the other campers. I even saw a dad slapping his child and calling the poor thing some names I can't dare to say. I think that the camping should have some strict rules about noise late at night, niw about bad parenting is just a shame.. seems like is scums favourite place to go with their poor children that don't deserve the parents they've got (not generalising).

Local attractions

Buckets and spades are go, with a range of good beaches on the doorstep; try Littlestone and Dymchurch, or Camber Sands a little further away. You’ll spot the steam engines of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway running along the waterfront; don’t miss a trip on this historic miniature railway, one of the best ways to explore the area.

Golfers don’t need to travel far to get a round in: the Littlestone Golf Course is right next door to Marlie Holiday Park.

Other sporting pursuits on offer include excellent fishing at the Wylands Angling Centre, where there are an amazing ten lakes to choose from; and a wide range of watersports, both on the nearby beaches and at a specially-designed lake just inland (sand yachting, wakeboarding, jet skiing and more).

Whatever your ages and stages, there’s no shortage of inspiration for a family outing. Twenty minutes up the road is the brilliant Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, where you can bump along through herds of African wildlife in a safari truck and get up close to the gorillas in the 'Palace of the Apes'; you’ll also see rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers and lots of other ferocious beasts.

Alternatively, you could go for a day out in Dover, to explore the White Cliffs and historic Dover Castle; a sedate saunter around spectacular Leeds Castle, potentially offset with an adrenaline-boosting high ropes adventure at the neighbouring Go Ape! centre; a tastebud-tickling trip to the Biddenden Vineyard and Cider Works; a walk down memory lane at Yesterday’s World; or a fun-filled foray to the fantastic Hop Farm near Maidstone.

Better book for two weeks, then...
