General

  • Rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch
  • Heated pool, kids' club, amusements centre and adventure playground
  • Family restaurant, entertainment venue and bar with Sky TV

Feeling a bit snarly? Nerves increasingly gnarly? We prescribe a trip to Marlie.

Laidback Marlie Holiday Park sits in a lovely rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch, on the Kent coast. With a generous sprinkling of fluffy bunnies, a heated indoor swimming pool, and plenty more stuff to keep the kids entertained, it could be just what the doctor ordered to restore your sense of calm and equilibrium...

Younger campers will enjoy the fun sessions in the Loopy kids' club, the indoor pool, amusements centre and adventure playground, plus of course all the general romping about in the fresh air (arm them with a few carrots and send them off to make friends with the resident rabbits).

If you want a break from the cooking, the park has a decent family restaurant; there’s also a bar with Sky TV, and an adjacent entertainment venue where you can let your hair down with a dance and singalong in the evenings.

You can relax in the knowledge that all the basics are covered, too: smartly refurbished showers and loos; a shop (as well a big supermarket just minutes up the road); a launderette; and free wifi in the clubhouse.

There, you’re feeling better already, aren’t you?

Pitch up website was easy to book

    Disliked:

Lots of rubbish in the camping area. 3 grumpy lifeguards in pool area( not sure why they needed 3 when they insist on parents being in there. One of them could be keeping the changing rooms cleaning)
Changing rooms were dirty and old.
    Sanitary box overflowing
    Excrement in cubicle
    Toothbrush down a toilet.
No toilet roll in entertainment toilets.
Not shown where to pitch/meet and greet.
Shop run out if milk ( did not store much considering the number of holiday homes)
We just felt there were very few people that cared about the place. Maybe they do not want tourers/ tents anymore? Well that is the impression we got

The pool was warm and clean. The open air movie night (although partly ruined by some families allowing kids to run around and be noisie).
Evening entertainment was good for the children.

    Disliked:

Music and loud adults late at night (sounded drunk!)
Arguments at half 1 from the family staying next to us.
Select families leaving the toilets in a disgusting state on purpose.
Broken toilet seats and locks in some toilets.
Some parents allowing very young children to walk around and use the park unsupervised.

Toilet/shower block was disgustingly filthy and despite several complaints only the floors were cleaned. Sinks and soap dispensers were vile, toilets had poop stains and 2 blocked. Disgusting stains on walls in toilet and shower cubicles and showers blocked, shower heads so encrusted with limescale the water didnt flow properly. It was awful. The pool was warm one day freezing the next, they had floats in there that belonged to park covered in mould and scum. The wash up facility was a hole with an old high level wc and chain.... How they can be considered in same light as other Park Holiday places we've stayed at i dont know.

Local attractions

Buckets and spades are go, with a range of good beaches on the doorstep; try Littlestone and Dymchurch, or Camber Sands a little further away. You’ll spot the steam engines of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway running along the waterfront; don’t miss a trip on this historic miniature railway, one of the best ways to explore the area.

Golfers don’t need to travel far to get a round in: the Littlestone Golf Course is right next door to Marlie Holiday Park.

Other sporting pursuits on offer include excellent fishing at the Wylands Angling Centre, where there are an amazing ten lakes to choose from; and a wide range of watersports, both on the nearby beaches and at a specially-designed lake just inland (sand yachting, wakeboarding, jet skiing and more).

Whatever your ages and stages, there’s no shortage of inspiration for a family outing. Twenty minutes up the road is the brilliant Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, where you can bump along through herds of African wildlife in a safari truck and get up close to the gorillas in the 'Palace of the Apes'; you’ll also see rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers and lots of other ferocious beasts.

Alternatively, you could go for a day out in Dover, to explore the White Cliffs and historic Dover Castle; a sedate saunter around spectacular Leeds Castle, potentially offset with an adrenaline-boosting high ropes adventure at the neighbouring Go Ape! centre; a tastebud-tickling trip to the Biddenden Vineyard and Cider Works; a walk down memory lane at Yesterday’s World; or a fun-filled foray to the fantastic Hop Farm near Maidstone.

Better book for two weeks, then...
