Still Acres Touring and Camping Park: Pitch

General

  • Kent countryside site with a warm and friendly atmosphere
  • Dog-friendly site with fenced-off exercise area
  • Immaculately-maintained heated amenities block

'Top of the range', 'luxurious' and 'immaculate' are a few of the accolades heaped upon the amenities at adults-only Still Acres Touring and Camping Park by grateful guests: if an essential part of your hol is sparkling and modern essentials, you'll be well set up here.

But there's more. Partly because the owners of this warm and friendly family-run site in the midst of Kent know their stuff and partly because of the site's setting: Still Acres is just outside Wealden village, with easy access to Kent's beaches, castles and many historic houses – if you're happy to go a bit further you could even venture to la belle France.

The site is on 28 acres of scenic and flat grassland with two acres set aside for guests; dogs are most welcome too and have a fenced off area for off-lead frolics.

And as for the accoladed amenities? The shower block on site is centrally heated, with disabled toilets and powerful showers and hand dryers – and all is immaculately maintained by the Still Acres team.

Please note

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Units heavier than 2000 2000 are not allowed.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Units longer than 10 meters metres are not allowed.

    Very quiet site. Facilities clean.

    Disliked:

Not ideal for motorhomes unless you are going to drive each day. We used taxis to take us to the local train station which were good but in short supply during school runs am and pm so you can't choose times to suit you. You cannot cycle to the station easily as roads are narrow and busy. Site owner not very flexible or helpful re site access with taxis so not a good choice and we won't be going there again. Site facilities average.

From the manager...

I am going to disagree with you on not being very flexible or helpful re site access with taxis and would hope 99% of our customers would agree with me,but when you asked me if I would be up at 6.30 am to let a taxi in for you and I responded with no I wouldn’t and that you would need to get to the gate yourself and see in the taxi with the gate fob you had been given on arrival you did seem somewhat disgruntled and the same the next evening when you rung doorbell after arriving home in taxi and expecting me to let him out.
Guests all have a gate fob (£10 deposit) so they can let themselves and any guests in and out of gates.

Like adults only but did feel very young. Possibly too young lol, Dog friendly as advertised.

    Disliked:

We chose this site as dog friendly and liked the wording fenced off dog area… which does exist but I think we read it as the area we were camping was the fenced off dog area? We would have liked our very well behaved dog off her lead but the site is “dogs on lead at all times”. Which we didn’t know until after we had arrived and it was brought to our attention. The owner was ok about our dog being off the lead maybe once it was clear we were in total control of our dog.

Nice secure area with great shower block , nice touches at dish washing area ( bowls and drying racks ) and having a chest freezer available is very handy.

    Disliked:

Bald area to pitch tent ( no grass left) so footprint laid straight on clay ).
All other pitches looked ok .
Thunderstorm and very heavy rain on our last night , left us to struggle getting tent pegs out and we took a layer of clay on the bottom of our footprint.

Local attractions

Still Acres Touring and Camping Park is most niftily located in a central position to some of the most popular Kent attractions, gardens and beaches, so pack a picnic and set off for the day to see what you can see.

Castle fans (everyone should be a castle fan) have a few famed piles in the area to pick from: the Still Acres team reckons that Leeds Castle, with 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens, daily activities and free flying falconry displays, is one of the best days out in Kent.

You could/should also get along to Chiddingstone Castle, set in 35 acres of grounds including a lake, rose garden and woodland, and with the collections of Denys Eyre Bower who owned and lived at Chiddingstone between 1956 and 1977. Dover Castle, set above the famed white cliffs, and Tonbridge Castle, dating back to the eleventh century, are also popular castley Kent picks.

If it's old piles you're after, also see Georgian Belmont House and Gardens in Throwley, near Faversham, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church.

Must see

  • Scotney Castle (6.6 miles)
