Scenic pitches surrounded by woodlands

  • Scenic site surrounded by woodlands in the Kent Downs
  • A 10-minute drive from Maidstone and Leeds Castle
  • Next to Kent Showground; pet-friendly site with a dedicated pet shower
Situated in the scenic Kent village of Detling, this family-focused campsite is a great place for all the family to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life and to reconnect with nature and each other. Surrounded by a protected woodland and with an abundance of trails to explore, it's easy to stretch your legs at Oak View Holiday Park and find space for your kids and/or dogs to let off some steam. Oak View Holiday Park is located right next to the Kent Showground, making this site an excellent option for attending the varied and numerous events and shows that run here throughout the year. Other top-notch attractions like Leeds Castle (10 minutes' drive) and Maidstone (10 minutes) are also easy to access. Guests staying here have access to modern and well-maintained bathroom and shower blocks (with separate male, female and disabled areas). Other handy on-site amenities include a laundry room, washing-up areas, waste disposal points and a pet shower, all of which are kept spick and span by the campsite team. Please note that only only gas, electric or charcoal barbecues are allowed, and open campfires and firepits are not permitted.

Liked Location is handy, got some woods near by for the kids to roam in. Not allot else on the park but theres nothing wrong with that. Just have to keep yaself busy, also lots of trees about where i was situated so plenty of shade in this weather. They let us use our gazebo free of charge too because of the heat which was nice. Also had some amazon packages delivered before we arrived which were handed to us on arrival which again was nice.

Disliked The toilets were a bit grim. Nothing too horrific but just felt like they didnt get cleaned while i was there. Only stayed 3 nights so maybe theres not cleaned that regular, or maybe im just a clean freak.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we do accept the good with the bad and will use your comments to make improvements.

Again, we can't say it enough, PLEASE research what we have on site before you book. If you feel there is not enough for your children to do, please look elsewhere. Having said this, a lot of our customers use the park as a base and go out for days, and there are the woods and a large green in the middle for the children to play in. We also try to pitch the children together so that they can make friends, many do and it's nice to see them all playing together.

Regarding the toilets:

These get cleaned every single day without fail and checked regularly. There will always be times when customers do need to use them before they have been cleaned. This time of year, when there is a constant footfall of people using them, they may not be up to standard at all times. Please read all our other reviews, most praise the cleanliness of the facilities. Spare a thought for the cleaner who has to deal with things that you wouldn't have to deal with in your own home. Unfortunately, human nature can sometimes make people inconsiderate, leaving things behind for others to deal with without a second thought.

We will take your comments into consideration and work harder to rectify this. The Oak View Team. 😊 🌳

Disliked Over crowded. Insufficient toilet facilities for number of people on site

From the manager: Thank you for taking time to leave us a review , Grahame, all be it a negative one. 😊

You made your one night booking during our busiest time of the year, the school summer holidays, during a very a very hot spell which meant we have been more busy than usual. We aren't really quite sure what you were expecting on a family holiday park.

We have never had comments about insufficient toilet facilities before so that's a new one. May we suggest that you go to an adults only or wild camping site in the future, where there are no people.

Happy Travels.

Simon M. 1 review

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Clean facilities, friendly staff and good shady spots in the hot weather

Disliked There is no grey water disposal for campervans and mobile homes. The number of showers (3 in mens) was very limited for number of campers.
Good site for families and groups but not so good for couples wanting peace and quiet.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Simon.

We are pleased that you were mainly happy with your stay.

Regarding your concerns:

One of our showers is closed for repair, there are normally 4 showers/toilets.

We had a drive over dumping facility but it was taken away for hygiene reasons. Customers were not using pipes, and regularly missed the drain and dumped their dirty water down the road. i'm sure that you can understand this isn't pleasant, especially in the summer.

We hope that you will comeback again one day. The Oak View Team. 😊 🌳

Can't believe we haven't been here before. We will definitely be back.

Liked It was a really nice campsite. Spacious, trees and green all around, full of birds and squirrels, excellent showers and toilets, very clean, super friendly staff!
Nice as a starting point for walks and there is a pub and small shop in walking distance (20 minutes and way back is uphill 🤣).
I travel with a rooftent and for people staying in tent, please be aware that you do hear the motorways. Not an issue for me and I knew this in advance by reading other reviews. For me the rest made up for this!

From the manager: Diana, we loved having you stay too. 😊

As you approach the top you will pass a layby and a sign for Bredhurst. Turn left along the road to Bredhurst; this is Scragged Oak Road. Local attractions

Oak View Holiday Park is in prime position to traverse the best of Kent's countryside, coast, castles and well-known gardens – with Essex and its coast easily accessible too just to the north. Plenty of pedalling and perambulating opportunities are around the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the 153-mile route of the North Downs National Trail through from Farnham to Canterbury, passing the White Cliffs of Dover. This takes in the 119-mile Pilgrims' Way, the supposed route of Thomas Becket from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral. Elsewhere in Kent, loads is on all year round in the 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens at lovely Leeds Castle (10 minutes’ drive), like free falconry displays, play areas, special events and making one's way intrepidly out of the castle maze. Also see Rochester Castle (20 minutes) on the east bank of the Medway for its 12th-century keep and stacks of historical info: the castle was sacked during the Peasants' Revolt, held for Henry III against the barons, and besieged (also because of barons) by bad King John. And of course, just next door is the Kent Showground, which hosts all sorts of events throughout the year (the most famed being the Kent County Show, which usually runs for three days in July).
