  • Quiet Kent holiday park five minutes' drive from the coast
  • A mile and a half from New Romney; Camber Sands 15 minutes' drive
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen and wifi hotspot available for all guests
For a peaceful holiday spot in south-eastern Kent, take a look at Romney Meadows Caravan and Camping Park, a mile and a half outside the small town of New Romney. Guests staying here have access to gorgeous green fields, footpaths, beaches, nature reserves and the Cinque Ports towns within a few minutes' drive or cycle. This small and well-maintained campsite has all the basic modern facilities you would expect, plus a few extras like a well-equipped shared kitchen and a wifi hotspot that all guests are welcome to use. This is a quiet and considerate spot for restful stays where kids, dogs and barbecues are all welcome. The local landscape is full of history: once buried under the English Channel, this area became an important Roman port, before becoming a smuggler's haven in the 18th century and playing a major role in the Napoleonic Wars. You can learn more at Romney Marsh Visitor Centre (10 minutes' drive), or ask the knowledgeable site staff, who will be happy to help point you in the right direction. Nearby New Romney has several supermarkets and pubs, plus a long stretch of shingle beach for scenic sunset walks.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Very clean site, clean facilities and well maintained. Hot water. Check in was easy and were shown where everything was.

Disliked: Rules are too much. If we go over this amount of electric it's extra, if you don't pack up and leave by 11 we will charge you extra. nowhere for children to play, no ball rule near pitches I understand due to damage but having somewhere children can play safely would be good or advertise as an adult only site. My kids were bored they have a box of games but they want to explore and meet others, they arent children who spend their lives on devices sadly meaning us parents did not get to relax. So that's why I've given a 3 star overall.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are happy for children to come here but we do not advertise there is a playpark here, we do ask for children not to play hard ball games, so as not to disturb other campers, we also request for them not to play on the banks down the bottom of the park or the farmers fields for there own safety. Check out time is 11am this is to enable us to prepare the pitches and park for the next arrivals due that day, there is charge if the client requests a late check out. The electricity charge is £5 per day which gives you 11.11 kilowatts. The meter is read on your arrival and on departure and if you use over what you have paid for we charge 0.45p per unit. It is very unlikely this happens this time of year. All the information with regards to the park can be found on our website and in our terms and conditions. These are attached to your confirmation booking that is sent to you at the time of booking. Regards Carol Campsite Manager

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely site very well maintained. Very friendly upon arrival was offered a choice of pitch and shown the way. Facilities were very good with a kitchen area and hairdryer in the laundry room nice touch. Funny visit to the toilet as there are wordsearch on the door which definitely made me smile. The whole grounds are immaculate and pitches are level. They have thought of everything really with fire pits to hire for a good price. We were able to walk to new Romney through the field and that took about 20 minutes. There is a cafe on site that does a variety of food and breakfast was lovely cooked fresh. This site is definitely worth a visit, we will return.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: I liked the magazine borrowing service, kitchen & laundry cabins, radio in the toilet block, being able to choose the pitch during quiet times, lovely surrounding country side, friendly staff and short walk across the fields to New Romney. A quiet site for just relaxing. Nice cafe on site for breakfast and lunches - we didn't try it but looked good.

Disliked: The Wifi doesn't reach the pitches. It didn't affect us but met a woman who wanted to read her Kindle before bed and couldn't.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Check in was easy. Friendly staff. All facilities were fine: showers, toilets clean (enjoyed the radio). There's a launderette and shop, plus a cafe that seems popular. Nice flat pitch, divided by fences. Fairly peaceful. Good footpath through the field to New Romney (15min)...there's pubs, shops & a Sainsburys.

Disliked: Not the campsite's fault, but we were woken, and kept awake, at 05.30 by the loud voices of people who pitched up beside us the night before we left. Very rude and inconsiderate...and against the campsite's rules.

Local attractions

The Kent coast is full of varied things to do: there’s birdspotting at RSPB Dungeness (10 minutes’ drive) for those looking for something a bit different from classic bucket-and-spade days, while Camber Sands’ beach and dunes (15 minutes) are on hand just down the road for those in the mood for ice creams, fish and chips or a dip in the sea. To spend more time outdoors, you could head off for a round or two at Lydd Golf Club (five minutes) or take the family off for the day to Port Lympne Reserve (25 minutes), a safari park surrounded by gorgeous green countryside. To keep the kids busy, there's more to see and do a little further down the coast at the Shipwreck Museum (40 minutes), while those on grownup getaways can get away for a bit of retail therapy at Ashford's designer outlets (20 minutes). Hankering to see a bit of history? Head up to the Royal Military Canal (15 minutes) for heritage walks by the water's edge, or hot-foot it to Dover Castle's tunnels (40 minutes) or Bodiam Castle and its moat (40 minutes).
