  • Well-maintained, peaceful camping field near Littlebourne in Kent
  • Five minutes’ drive to Howletts Wild Animal Park; 15 to Canterbury
  • Off-grid site with showers; firepits for hire and kindling for sale
With a peaceful, rural setting near Littlebourne in Kent, Cooll Camping offers the best of two worlds – tranquillity at the pop-up camping field surrounded by mature trees, plus lots of historic sights, shops and pubs as it’s on the outskirts of lovely Canterbury. Communal facilities include a rain-shower shed and a washing-up sink, as well as shared firepit; you can also rent individual firepits and buy logs and kindling so you can grill up a barbecue outside your own tent if you’d rather not do too much mingling. Pick up meat for the grill at the convenient farm shop (five minutes’ drive). If you’d prefer to abandon cooking altogether, you’ll never be short of somewhere to eat and drink, as there are loads of pubs within 10-minutes’ drive. And don’t forget that this is wild camping with no electricity (although ice pack freezing is available to keep your foodie bits and bobs fresh). Bring a torch for getting around after dark. There are two pubs within walking distance of Cooll Camping, including a popular foodie pub with great family facilities only a short walk along the bridleway and a pub 15 minutes' walk away in the village.

What customers say

This is a friendly, relaxed campsite with helpful and welcoming owners. Visitors praise the peaceful atmosphere, ample space, and cleanliness of the facilities, particularly the toilets and shower. The location is convenient for exploring nearby villages and Canterbury. While the basic facilities, especially the limited number of toilets and showers, are noted as a potential drawback during peak times, the overall experience is highly positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

From the manager: We are expanding for next year, we did limit the amount of people this year. We had 2 real toilets and 2 portaloos just so we didn’t have queues. Thank you for staying.

We really liked it and we would definitely return.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very welcoming, nature around, clean and good for little children. Plenty of space. Sam and her family are so helpful and friendly, thanks!

Disliked Maybe more toilets would be beneficial but ok in a not busy period.

Electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Stayed 3 days with 3 kids in the end of August. Very convenient location- near Margate and Whistable.
Great for kids - football, badminton and basketball available. The owner every evening was bringing marshmallows for the kids in the whole campsite. Very nice and friendly owner and can give useful advises where to go for the day, where the food is good etc.
The site is not huge , but big enough- has 1 shower , never needed to queue, 2 toilets + 2 chemical toilets, 2 fridges and 1 sink. Everything was always clean and maintained, with washing liquid available if needed and liquid hand soap.
We had a fantastic time as well as the kids - they made friends and played with them. The campsite was quiet, no problems with anything and anyone.
We are planning to come back soon with friends.

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked We were welcomed by the lovely female owner, who gave us a map of local places to eat and visit. She also came round in the evening and handed out complimentary marshmallows for the fire pit. Thank you!
Lovely, relaxed atmosphere for couples and families. Great proximity to Canterbury. Bus stop 5-10 minute walk.

Football goal and basketball hoop for children.

Toilets and shower regularly cleaned and checked.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Big field, games for the kids to keep them entertained,
Owners came round with marshmallows for us while we were round our camp fire which was a lovely touch
We did the kent safari walk where the public footpath runs through the middle of howletts zoo, was good to see the elephants & explore the local area, even managed to see a local cricket match too.

Local attractions

Mmm, where to go and what to do first? If you’re with the kids, Howletts Wild Animal Park is well-worth setting a day aside to see the mountain gorillas and tigers in fairly natural and expansive settings. Wingham Wildlife Park (both five minutes’ drive) offers feeding sessions with parrots and lemurs, and at the Wildwood Trust (15 minutes) you can see wild boar, deer and bears. At Herne Bay (half an hour), families can have good, old-fashioned seaside fun on the pier and in the seaside arcades, or you can take seafront walks through Herne Bay Coastal Park (25 minutes). Energetic types will be happy splashing on the water at Canoe Wild - Fordwich (10 minutes), and anglers should head for Cottington Lakes Fishery (20 minutes) for a day chasing carp. Photogenic Canterbury (15 minutes) deserves your attention too, another big-hitter for families, with the historic cathedral to tour and half-timbered buildings lining cobbled streets packed with indie shops, old-world pubs and restaurants. Look out for the wonky lines of St John Boys House, now a celebrated bookshop.
