  • Family-friendly farm site 25 minutes’ drive from Canterbury
  • Five-minute drive to Wingham Wildlife Park and 15 minutes to Howletts
  • Electric gates, CCTV and fresh free-range eggs from site chickens
Hankering for soothing hols with plenty of countryside peace, the potential for adventure and lots and lots to do? Hurry along to Blenheim Caravan and Motorhome Site, a family-friendly park five minutes’ walk from the Kent village of Preston and a 25-minute drive from Canterbury. The site’s well-placed for nature-filled getaways: it’s 15 minutes from Sandwich and Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve, where there’s birdwatching aplenty, butterflies flitting around and a section of the long-distance England Coast Path to join. For a far wilder view of nature, head instead for Wingham Wildlife Park five minutes away or Howletts Wild Animal Park 15 minutes from base to come face to face with lemurs, tigers and, er… dinosaurs. If that’s scared up an appetite, the site’s in a top spot for keeping well fed. There’s a butcher’s and a grocery store in Preston for sourcing barbecue-friendly eats (and other essentials), fresh free-range eggs on site from the farm's chickens and, when a break from cooking is needed, there’s the village’s garden centre coffee shop for light lunches, and a pub and restaurant for dinner. No need to feel wary of leaving kit behind while off on adventures either: the site’s got a secure electric gate entrance, and there’s CCTV to keep an eye on everything – if a bit of living security would be welcome though, dogs are welcome on site too.

Local attractions

What better way to start hols than by stopping to smell the roses? There are loads of opportunities nearby: Goodnestone Park Gardens is 15 minutes’ drive away, where you can trip around walled gardens and arboretums and pass some time lazing in the shade of the ancient Lebanese cedar tree. Otherwise, Mount Ephraim and Whitstable gardens are both a little under half an hour from base, and Westgate Gardens are 25 minutes from the site in Canterbury. When finished at Westgate, stick around Canterbury as there’s plenty more to do… Visits to the UNESCO World Heritage cathedral and St Augustine Abbey Ruins are obvious musts, and there are Roman museums, guided walks and trails, and boat rides on the Stour to round out itineraries. In this part of Kent, the coastline is nearly always within easy reach. If everyone fancies a splashy day at the beach, there’s a long sandy stretch along Sandwich Bay, about 20 minutes from the site, and the seaside towns of Margate and Ramsgate are both within 25 minutes. For bigger excursions, London’s an hour and a half’s train ride from Sturry (15 minutes away) and, if Blighty starts to bore, the site’s a mere 35-minute drive to Dover port and the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone, making France and Belgium easily reachable for handy day trips.
