  • Well-maintained family glampsite near the village of Smarden in Kent
  • A 35-minute drive to Port Lympne Safari Park; Canterbury 50 minutes
  • Secure site with communal kitchens, five minutes’ drive from shops
A five-acre site set between the pretty Kent villages of Headcorn and Smarden, Go Glamp is a friendly, family-run sort of place that welcomes kids and dogs. It has a chilled vibe so relaxation is never going to be a problem – and your privacy is pretty much ensured, thanks to there being plenty of space around the camping fields. Communal facilities include a kitchen area for food prep and washing up, and refrigerators to keep your food (and drink, very important) chilled. Sparkling-clean toilets and spacious warm showers are found adjacent to the car park. Mobile phone charging points are available, but please warn any teens that internet access is limited. Barbecues and firepits are available for hire, and buckets of wood can be bought for a small charge. Pick up essentials from the convenience stores in Headcorn (five minutes’ drive), or you can ditch the car and walk to the pubs in Smarden (half an hour) if grilling up supper isn’t on the agenda. A trainline runs along the back of the site, bound to London and back, where guests can spy on the Pullman and steam trains (it runs twice per hour and not between midnight or 6am). Guests can also often spot light aircraft displays, hot air balloons and parachutists and wing-walkers from the nearby aerodrome. For your extra safety, the glampsite is secured with automatically closing electric gates; an entry code will be given to you on arrival. If you have any queries or problems, do ask the owners, who live on-site.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: 2nd visit to this wonderful camp site. Alan is a superb host and makes a point of making sure everything is perfect. Really close to Headcorn aerodrome so you can watch the parachutists from the site as well as lots of planes flying around during the day. Extremely clean shower and toilet facilities as well as a fridge in the main building + toaster etc. Been to lots of sites throughout Kent and East Sussex and this one is easily the best I’ve been to. Highly recommended.

Yurt

Liked: Lovely campsite, we felt very much at home. Alan and Kim could not do more to help. They let us borrow a travel cot for our 4 month old baby and even provided dog leads as we'd left them behind! Our other two children were safe to roam and run around with their friends that they made. Alan was brilliant with all the questions he received from our 6 year old. The site was extremely clean and well looked after. A bonus was the communal area with a fridge and cooking utensils. It wasn't too busy when we were there so three toilets and three showers was perfect for us. Loved watching the parachutes and hot air balloons and listening to the lions roaring near by. We will definitely come back. Thankyou for a great 3 nights.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: This place was amazing. This was our 2 year olds first time camping and he loved it. The open field, the lions roaring in the background from the big cat sanctuary. The people parachuting at Headcorn Airfield, hot air balloons flying over on the Sunday morning, and a friendly couple and dog who own the place. What more could you want. It was perfect. The facilities were always topped up and kept clean. There were fire pits for the evenings and if you ever required anything, the owners were more than happy to help. We would definitely stay again.

Local attractions

If you want to get active on your glamping break, the whole family can have a runaround on treetop ropes at Go Ape Bedgebury, or go dinghy sailing and climb the inflatable courses at Bewel Water (both half an hour’s drive). Slow things down with nature rambles around the arboretum at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (35 minutes). Plenty to do with animals as the focus too: see silverback gorillas, big cats and African elephants in semi-wild enclosures at Howletts Wildlife Park (50 minutes), or take a jeep safari at Port Lympne Safari Park (35 minutes) to spy on rhinos and stately giraffes. If you have younger kids in tow, let them have a cuddle with the friendly inmates at Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats (20 minutes). Canterbury Cathedral (50 minutes) may be calling to history lovers, who can visit the scene of Thomas Beckett’s murder in 1170, before having an amble around the city centre’s half-timbered streets to the porcelain collections in ornate Beaney House of Art and Knowledge. The medieval cathedral and Norman-era castle in Rochester (40 minutes) are both open to tour, or you can do a spot of window shopping on the historic high street.
