General

  • Quiet, rural and spacious site on a working farm
  • On the North Downs Way surrounded by fields and woodland
  • Free-range eggs and fresh apple juice for sale

Fancy a peaceful Kentish sojourn, with loads of space for all to run around, and with walks and bike rides all around? Dunn.

Dunn Street Farm is a working farm above the village of Westwell near Ashford, surrounded by hills and woodland. It's a topping stop for hikers and bikers – the 153-mile North Downs Way passes through the farm – and for kids, as there's heaps of space to run around/play games on site and it's about ten miles from the critters of Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.

(Small sorts will likely like a look at the Dunn Street Farm critters too: sheep, cattle and horses in the surrounding fields, and chickens and goats in the paddocks around the farmyard.)

Amenities are simple but clean: loos, showers and washing-up facilities are in the farmyard between the two camping fields.

Guests can buy free-range eggs produced by the farm's chickens and apple juice from the family's fruit farm near Maidstone; for further supplies, Westwell and local pub the Wheel Inn are less than ten minutes' walk away. The villages of Charing and Challock with cafés and shops are within ten minutes' drive.

We had a really great time in a lovely setting. The campsite had just what we wanted and more, including fresh eggs, local fruit juices and campfire logs available and everything was very relaxed.
    We will definitely be back!

From the manager...

We do not have an on-site supermarket, nightclub or spa, nor do we have a Michelin starred restaurant. We have a campsite offering proper camping for proper campers. This is all made perfectly clear in all of our advertising; perhaps this reviewer should have done a little research before making a reservation.

Spacious and quiet, except for the cows ;-)

    Disliked:

Sanitary facilities were not really clean, e.g. lots of spider webs. One of the male toilets clogged easily. The number of toilets & showers was sometimes not enough, which was bad for the smaller kids. The long way to the facilities (especially at night). One time the power was down during the night and the farm and the toilet stalls were pitch black.

From the manager...

I have spoken to the cows and they have promised to moo more gently.
I like spiders, I think they add rustic charm.
We could install site-wide street lighting with an emergency back-up generator. Then again, perhaps if campers come prepared with a torch then on the rare occasions that we have a power cut it won't cause too much of a problem.

Level pitch, lots of space. We loved the walk through the farmyard to the showers, and seeing the chickens ,ducks, sheep, cows, horses and goats. Fresh eggs ,juice ,charcoal and wood for sale on site. I thought the kettle in the kitchen was a nice touch too. The pilgrims way passes through and this was great for walking the dog and the views were magnificent. Lovely walks to villages. We particularly appreciated the arrive when you like, leave when you like policy,it made our last day stress free and meant we could walk the dog, have lunch then pack up at leisure, this is the only site I have been on that operates like this and it made such a difference. We will definitely be going back for another lay in a field and relax holiday.

Beautiful farm location with far reaching views. Very relaxed site with no restrictions for arrival and departure times. The supplies in the washing up room were a great addition, we had 2 bottles of lovely apple juice an 2 big bags of logs to put on our fire pit.
Having the farm animals around was really special and we had a farm cat visiting us regularly and felt very privileged.

    Disliked:

The rumble of the M20 is constantly present but you do get used to it and we would still definitely stay there again.

From junction 9 on the M20, follow the signs towards Ashford then at the next roundabout take the A20 towards Lenham. Follow the A20 until the two carriageways merge then take the next right turn towards Westwell. Follow the road into Westwell then when you reach The Wheel Inn follow Gold Hill towards Challock.
