  • Rural glamping site on an 18th-century farm in the Kent Downs
  • Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty half an hour’s drive from the coast
  • Firepits and barbecues on site; country pub within walking distance
Go glamping on the wild side at Crabtree Farm… this dog-friendly site mashes wildlife with a little bit of luxury on the grounds of an 18th-century Grade II listed farm in the village of Hastingleigh, half an hour’s drive from the coast. Surrounded by the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the views are certainly splendid and Dover’s iconic white cliffs and old fortress are also 35 minutes’ drive away. This getaway will whisk you nicely away from the crowds, as this is farm site stretches out over two acres of wild fields and it's circled by another 10 acres, including sheep and chicken grazing in a fenced area nearby. You’ll still feel nice and cosy with firepits (firewood and a bag of charcoal provided), gas barbecues and bathroom facilities with cold running water a short walk away from the pitches (including a nice selection of locally-sourced natural soaps and body washes). And so that you can plot our your next move, there's wifi near the farmhouse. Prep any food in the outdoor kitchen facilities or make a toast to the day at the traditional country pub five minutes’ walk away (this inn serves food too). There are trendy gastropubs in the local village of Wye, 10 minutes’ drive away, as well as a bakery, butchery, café, boutique restaurants and a well-stocked food shop for any handy snacks.

Local attractions

Get stuck into lakeside or woodland walking trails and pack a picnic for Brockhill Country Park (20 minutes’ drive), a nice destination that was once part of the estate of a Norman manor. The Port Lympne Safari Park (20 minutes) is also within the same distance and home to wild safari animals you by safari truck. Fancy a beach day? Sunny Sands (half an hour) has firm sand great for sandcastles and surf hire if you want to dedicate some time to catch the waves. There are plenty more seaside towns within reach of the site, including Whitstable (40 minutes for rainbow beach huts and a gentle paddle), Broadstairs (an hour), Ramsgate (55 minutes) and Deal (50 minutes). Walk laps around the house, gardens and kitchens at Belmont House and Gardens (half an hour). Then, visit the moat and maze at Leeds Castle (half an hour) for another trip back in time. There are plenty of historic attractions in Canterbury (half an hour) too, a Roman market town with a cathedral and abbey.

Liked: So peaceful and lovely. All facilities are there. First time my young daughters had a experience of living in the wild. Dog loved and was a bit too excited. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.
