  • Peaceful dog-friendly site a short drive from Isle of Wight beaches
  • A five-minute drive from Newport town centre; 20 minutes to Shanklin
  • Next to a horse-riding centre with a play area, bar and restaurant
All aboard for the Isle of Wight… with this dog-friendly site being positioned in a stunning central spot within 10 to 20 minutes’ drive of a multitude of Isle of Wight beaches, keep your buckets and spades, hiking boots and any other outdoor gear handy. Springfield Oaks is well-maintained, peaceful and based next door the Island Riding Centre. The riding centre provides on-site hacks for riders and non-riders, and if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, it also has a play area, a bar and a restaurant. They’re just a few minutes’ country walk away – how handy. That’s not the only handy thing about Springfield Oaks. It’s also five minutes’ drive away from Newport town centre, where there are a bunch of shops, pubs and coffee shops (including by the river…). For ferries to the mainland, it’s a 10-minute drive to Fishbourne for the Wightlink ferry to Portsmouth or 10 minutes to East Cowes for the ferry to Southampton. Pick up lovely country walks in the area, or down by the coast too… there are plenty of chances to get moving and soak up all the stunning scenery. Sandown is 15 minutes' drive away and Shanklin is 20 minutes' drive away for beaches. The facilities on Springfield Oaks include waste disposal and all of the pitches come with electric hook-up. Guests can get ferry discounts of 15% from the site.

Local attractions

Fancy yourself as a bit of an animal admirer? Monkey Haven - Primate Rescue Centre (five minutes’ walk) has the likes of lemurs and gibbons, with their animal encounters bringing you up and close to some furry sorts. Butterfly World IOW (15 minutes’ walk) has free-flying butterflies for those wanting to see a slightly more fluttery creature If you’re just after a beach day, Ryde (15 minutes) will add in the bells and whistles like bars and restaurants. Shanklin (20 minutes) is its slightly more well-developed sibling, with a long, sandy bay, old village, sandstone cliff views, theatre and amusement games. A stroll to Shaklin Chine, which has a gorge and waterfall, makes for a rather pleasant pre- or post-swim activity too. There are a few big tourist attractions on the Isle of Wight that you might want to get to, like Blackgang Chine (25 minutes), the UK’s oldest theme park. The Needles (45 minutes) is another; its chalk cliffs and out-to-sea stacks are simply stunning, and with a chairlift and other attractions above the bay, it’s easy to make a whole day out of it.
