Main camping area looking at the pool area

General

  • Pop-up summer site 10 minutes' walk from the beach in Cowes
  • Close to bus stops and round-island cycle path for car-free outings
  • Heated covered pool, hot tub and sauna on site

Springing to life for a few weeks of summer only, Kingsclere Camping is a petite place in a handy corner of Cowes, five minutes’ drive from the town centre.

As it’ll be summer while you’re staying here, surely the weather’s going to involve wall-to-wall sunshine… but just in case it isn’t, divert splashing activities from the seaside to the swimming pool on site (it’s heated and under cover, so can still be used even on occasional dreary days). And if you need a little extra warming up after days out and about, there’s also a sauna and hot tub for guest use.

Speaking of days out and about, this is a useful location for all sorts of activities and attractions around the Isle of Wight – it’s a fairly compact island, so even the very far side is only just over a half-hour drive in the way. That means easy jaunts to beaches, animal parks, castles, fossil hunts, watersports, steam railway rides…

All such outings are likely to result in ravenous travellers; back at base you can sort that situation as you see fit, lighting up a barbecue (off the ground only, ta) or cooking indoors at the shared kitchen. Supplies for either can be sourced at the shop a couple of minutes’ walk away, although it’s also possible that you may get sidetracked and end up in one of the couple of pubs within easy ambling distance (ah well, that’s what hols are for…).

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

The hosts make all the difference here. As a micro camp site, there is no "Entertainment " like there might be in big sites, but it's probably best. We made full use of the pool and the hot tub (there is also a Sauna). The Hosts were excellent and helped us a lot with local info, and event some kit. Everything is very clean. Highly recommend.

Beautiful spot with fantastic facilities very welcoming and friendly hosts. The children loved the swimming pool, and the hot tub, and were thrilled to be given the chance to feed to Koi Carp. Well positioned for everything we wanted to do on the island - shop and café opposite, bus routes within easy walk. As non-car-drivers this was an ideal spot. Richard and Julia could not be more lovely - so glad we found you!

Best camping we ever visited. Less than 10 mins to the beach walking. Super friendly and helpful owners. Small and quiet site. Koi carps in pond in front of the house. Swimming pool, jacuzzi, kitchen, coffee machine, washing machine an tumble dryer, etc. In short, this is so far the most luxurious camping I could imagine.

Great location and facilities, this is a small campsite which is lovely and quite, but still has a pool for the kids. The owners are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. When I go back to the Isle of Wight this will be my first choice of campsite. There is also a good shop and great coffee shop/cafe opposite and also a short walk to the pub 👍

We really liked this small, quiet and clean campsite. The owners are very gentle and attentive. The location is perfect. Close to the sea, a grocery shop and a very nice little café situated across the campsite and a pub which serves good food just at the corner of the street. Very happy my husband and I found this place.

Local attractions

Bringing bikes is a fine idea for an Isle of Wight break: there are many miles of peaceful path to pedal along around the island, and Kingsclere is only a couple of minutes from the track that goes all the way around the coastline (67 miles in total…).

And bringing beach kit is also highly recommended, whether you’re planning bucket and spade outings with the tiddlers in Sandown or Shanklin (both half an hour’s drive), kayaking at Freshwater Bay (25 minutes), rockpooling at Bembridge (half an hour) or chip eating at… well, pretty much any of the beaches, really (what’s a seaside hol without fish and chips?).

After that, the island’s stuffed with other family-friendly days out: historic pads Carisbrooke Castle (15 minutes) and Osborne House (20 minutes), rides on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway (20 minutes), cute creatures at Monkey Haven (15 minutes) or Amazon World Zoo (20 minutes), rollercoasters and dinosaurs at Blackgang Chine (half an hour)…

Must see

  • Osborne House (2.2 miles)
  • Carisbrooke Castle (4.8 miles)
  • Isle of Wight Steam Railway (5.9 miles)

  • Newtown Old Town Hall (4.6 miles)
