  • Watercress Line and Jane Austen's House within a 10-minute drive
  • Kingsize bed, kitchen, bathroom and barbecue/firepit provided
Now here’s a place with a very appropriate name… Field View Luxury Glamping is a smart place indeed, and thanks to its location in the grounds of a Hampshire smallholding, the ‘field view’ aspect is very nicely covered too. These luxury bell tents are placed in a well-maintained paddock, looking out over the animals grazing in neighbouring fields. The property is a working arable farm with sheep on site, so it’s generally a most peaceful atmosphere all around – and you’ll have a barbecue/firepit, outdoor seating and fairy lights provided to help you make the most of your outdoor space by day and night. Inside each tent, beds are made up for your arrival (one kingsize bed plus two singles) and there’s also comfy chairs, bedside lights, a small fridge, USB chargers and plug sockets as well as cosy soft furnishings. The tents also have a luxury bathroom with a toilet and shower (and towels supplied too, of course). A bit of outdoor cookery on the barbecue is a fine idea, but you’ll also have access to a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, plus plates and cutlery (a particularly handy resource for breakfast time and any damp days). Whether you’re cooking in the fresh air or under cover, you can pick up supplies a mile away in Medstead (also the location of the nearest pub) or head to bigger Alton (15 minutes’ drive).

Bell tent

Liked: We stayed here for my birthday and from start to finish it was perfect! Colin and his family were so friendly and left us fresh eggs milk and hot cross buns in the kitchen which was a wonderful touch. The tent itself exceeded my expectations, it was decorated fantastically with a luxury feel and had plug sockets which was so handy for our morning cuppa:) The gas bbq was easy to use and everything was left for us to make a fire in the evening which my little brothers loved making s’mores on. We are already discussing coming back as it was such a private lovely campsite. Thankyou again!

Liked: We had the best time at Field View Luxury Glamping! I stayed with my 2 daughters aged 7 and 11. The glamping pod really was luxury with warm comfy bed, loads of extra blankets to snuggle up with, comfy chairs, pretty lights and a kettle for an early morning coffee! The hosts were so kind and thoughtful and spent lots of time telling my girls all about the farm and the animals which they loved! The girls even got to collect eggs from the chickens (which made a delicious brekkie) and feed the horse. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were immaculate. All in all, perfect. We will be back!

Bell tent

Liked: Lovely spot in a well-manicured field. The tent was incredibly roomy and decked out with every small need addressed eg. torches and throws for cooler nights. In spite of relentless heavy rain over at least 15 hours there were no leaks in the tent which was pretty impressive! The candle lanterns, tea lights and fairy lights outside were a great addition creating a good atmosphere in the evening/night. Immaculate kitchen and shower block with much appreciated goodies - tea, coffee, eggs from the beautiful chickens on site and a delicious loaf - to name just a few things. Owners Colin and Jo are very friendly and helpful and, all in all, it was a really memorable and enjoyable stay. We will definitely be back hoping for better weather next time!

Bell tent

Liked: This place was amazing. Every detail was carefully thought out and presented for people's use. The location is easily accessible from Alton, which is a half-hour train journey from London. Upon arrival, you're greeted by your perfect hosts, Colin and Jo (and if you're lucky, Jo's brother Andy). I cannot stress enough how wonderful and welcoming they were, making you feel right at home. One of my concerns about the tent was the heat, but it's designed with enough air gaps to allow fresh air in, so you don't experience a greenhouse effect. The interior is very cozy, and outside, you have a clean kitchen, bathroom, and toilet facility. Beyond the tent, there's a barbecue and fireplace, which I consider to be the most fantastic part of the whole experience. There are high-end amenities that allow for fine dining in the evenings, but be sure to book in advance, especially on weekends. In summary, I was thoroughly satisfied with the camping experience. I would definitely recommend it to young and mature couples or groups of friends.

Local attractions

Hampshire is full of historic sights – and several of them are within easy reach of Field View. You may like to start with a stroll around Old Alresford (10 minutes’ drive), which gets a mention in the Domesday Book, or make a trip to Winchester (20 minutes) to visit the cathedral and see King Arthur’s Round Table in the Great Hall. Rides on the Watercress Line (10 minutes) have a sense of the past too, as you steam through the countryside on heritage trains. The legacy of local girl Jane Austen lives on around here – learn a bit more about the author at Jane Austen’s House, where she spent much of her writing career, and Chawton House, a manor once owned by her brother (both 10 minutes away). Grand outing to go with your glam stay? How about a night at the opera? Shows run at The Grange at Northington (15 minutes) through June and early July, with picnics in the interval. Tipple instead? Both Hattingley Valley (five minutes) and Raimes English Sparkling (15 minutes) run vineyard tours and tastings.
