  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by countryside five miles from Winchester
  • A 15-minute drive to Mottisfont and 35 minutes from Stonehenge
  • Playground, games field and dog exercise area; firepit hire, logs sold
This is a peaceful campsite that welcomes families and dogs to its level and well-kept pitches, which are sheltered by mature trees and hedgerows. With facilities including hot showers and flushing toilets – plus a playground, games field, dog exercise field and footpath to a local country park – Folly Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a tiptop place to stay in the gorgeous Hampshire countryside. How to unwind here? Well, there are plenty of spots around the site to let your hair down (thanks to its peaceful and level grassy pitches, play areas, wifi, free showers and walks in the surrounding woodlands) but you’ll have your choice of many a day out from here too. Perhaps a venture into the South Downs National Park (10 minutes’ drive)? Into the vibrant city of Winchester (15 minutes) for its historic sites, such as the medieval cathedral, the ruins of Wolvesey Castle, the working 18th-century corn mill, Jane Austen’s house or the castle’s medieval round table, once sat at by King Arthur? From Winchester, there’s a short stroll along the water meadows of the river Itchen down to England’s oldest medieval almshouse and The Hospital of St Cross or the 25-minute ascent to St Catherine’s Hill for views of the city, a dramatic chalk hill and an Iron Age hillfort. As for ventures from the site, you might want to set your next target as one of three local pubs serving home-cooked food in the villages of Sparsholt, Littleton or Crawley (this one’s 25 minutes’ walk away).

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely site. Well spaced out. Clean showers and washing up area.
Level pitches and not too busy.

Disliked: Being opposite the play area with lots of noisy children until 10.30pm…

From the manager: Many thanks for your review, we're pleased you loved the site, found everything spacious and clean and enjoyed your overnight stay on Friday. For safety reasons we close the playground around 9pm or dusk, whichever is sooner, and the children return to their pitches around the playground. Sometimes children can be quite excited on Friday as it's their first night and they've made lots of new friends so their parents let them stay up a bit later, but they're usually quieter by Saturday. Next time you book with us please feel welcome to request a pitch further away from the playground. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Separate games field with goals and badminton net and bats etc

Disliked: Shower block a distance from pitch

From the manager: Many thanks for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay and made use of the games field. As we are a dark sky site the shower blocks are a little way from the pitches to ensure everyone can enjoy the amazing starlit skies without interference from artificial light. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The communication, the friendly and welcoming tone of the person on the other end of the phone when I need to ask a couple of questions as first time visiting and first time camping. Facilities were perfect and had everything we needed. Fab location. Didn’t know if there was or not as we were just enjoying our time there. Clean facilities and friendly staff made the weekend.

From the manager: Thank you for your wonderful review. We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay, found us all friendly and helpful, and the campsite had everyhting you needed for a fantastic weekend away! We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: not much

Disliked: entrance bollard that failed
locks, padlocks and chains a major feature
half the site - 2 acres - is locked up so crowded
dog walk area is tiny

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your 1 night stopover. As you were a last minute booking your vehicle registration hadn't been added to the ANPR system yet, which was explained to you on arrival. Once it had been added you were able to enter and exit seamlessly. As you will see from our reviews we are a very friendly team, but unfortunately as you never came out of your motorhome our wardens were unable to greet you on their walk rounds. The dog exercising area is a good size and enjoyed by all that use it. We are also praised for our well maintained pitches, which is achieved by resting different areas on a rotational basis. This was particularly important during the torrential rain we experienced on the night you visited.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Very quiet site, pitches well maintained and level, seperate area for the kids to play ball games and wardens came round to pitch every day to check in to make sure all was ok, specific way emailed to set up pitch normally a car between tents which means tents not right next to each other - would stay again

Disliked: This is me being picky but could be improved by: a shelf in the shower as no where to put things, a notice on entry and exit stating to stop close to bollard (closer than you think) - I had to explain to a few people I passed as if too far away, bollard would go down and straight up again. More white markings on the posts marking the pitches as the small amount of tape is easily missed as I noted with a neighbour a few pitches down. Only other thing is it would have been better to receive the information email 24h+ rather that 3 hours before arrival. These are all VERY little things and would not put me off coming again

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your positive review and suggestions. The welcome email we send out asks customers to drive right up to the bollard until they can only see the top of it, but we might add a sign as well. The new ladies shower room will be ready at the end of June. We used to have thicker tape but it came off the posts too easily in bad weather, we have also tried painting the posts but that weathered too quickly, so the narrow tape has been the most effective solution so far, but maybe we could add more of it. The pitches are allocated on the morning of arrival, when we know final numbers, and the pitch number is sent out in the welcome email once the allocations are complete. We will be moving across to a new booking system soon which we hope will speed this up. We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Good facilities showers and toilets mid level.

Disliked: Was half term week lots of families and therefore a bit noisy.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. New facilities are currently being built. We are a family orientated campsite and it was a busy half term week. We welcome solo campers like yourself, and couples, and advise those looking for a quieter atmosphere to book during term time, particularly midweek when the campsite is extremely peaceful.

Amazing place to stay will definitely stay there again.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Good access to the road network. Well cared for, clean and tidy.

Disliked: Quite exposed, especially in poor weather. No choice of pitch (allocated to you after booking). No visible staff on site. Very noisy, especially if your pitch is near the access roadway that serves all the camping fields. Long walk to the facilities. Small pitches and tightly packed in.

Would I return: Unfortunately not. It wasn’t relaxing at all, mainly due to constant noise of people, dogs and vehicles, way into the night. There wasn’t a moment of calm, from when I arrived mid afternoon, until I left. 10pm and the kids are still running around screaming, the chap next door has spent the last half hour hammering in his windbreak and the access road is like the m25. 11pm and it’s all still going on…Some won’t mind this I guess, but it’s not for me.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your unnecessarily harsh review. We're pleased you found the site well cared for, clean and tidy. Four staff were working around the clock to ensure you found it that way. We were also walking around the site several times a day until after midnight checking everyone was happy and quieting down any noisy campers. As a solo camper it might be best not to book a one night stay during a busy half term week on a campsite that welcomes families, but you would have been welcome to request a pitch away from the entrance, which is a tiny track by the way and nothing like the M25.

Local attractions

Get keyed up on the local history… with hillforts, National Trust properties and historic steam railways around, there are many jaunts to take you way back. Closest to the site, there's Danebury Iron Age Hillfort (10 minutes’ drive), Mottisfont’s (15 minutes) historical priory, garden and country estate (15 minutes) or Winchester’s (15 minutes) cathedral, castle, markets and fairs. Perhaps the most iconic of the lot, Stonehenge (35 minutes) is a short trip away. Mid Hants Railway 'Watercress Line' (25 minutes) will take you on a ride along a 19th-century heritage steam train line, while the National Motor Museum (45 minutes) and the maritime museum at Buckler's Hard (55 minutes) are full to the brim with old artefacts. Once you’re done with country house tours – perhaps at Broadlands House (35 minutes) or the National Trust’s Georgian Hinton Ampner (25 minutes) – a festival might bring you firmly to the present again. The Boomtown Fair venue (20 minutes) and Carfest South venue (25 minutes) are both close by. But, how to finish off your stay? Maybe the 72-hectare arboretum at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens (20 minutes), the birds of prey experiences at the Hawk Conservancy Trust (25 minutes), Marwell Zoo (half an hour), Salisbury Cathedral (half an hour) or the kid-friendly Paultons Park, Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour)?
