  • Quiet Hampshire site with large grass pitches and easy road access
  • In the Test Valley, less than a mile from Stockbridge town centre
  • Wild-style camping on a low-key farm; firewood for sale on site
Time in the Test Valley is time well spent – this lovely pocket of Hampshire is well-known for its scenery, clear chalk streams and gentle pace of life, making it just the spot for a laidback camping break. Stockbridge View, a quiet site near the Test Valley market town of Stockbridge, is conveniently located just off the A30. This back to basics choice is within easy reach of Winchester (20 minutes' drive), Salisbury (25 minutes), Stonehenge (25 minutes) and Southampton (35 minutes). The pitches here are set over a flat and grassy area that's bordered by trees and hedgerows. You can pitch up wherever you like at this laidback farm spot, and all parts of the site are a few minutes’ walk from good basic amenities like a modern toilet and shower block and a chemical disposal point (please use green fluid). Campfires, barbecues and firepits are welcome here as long as they are lifted well off the grass. Handily, firewood is available to buy if you haven't brought your own fuel. Wood-fired pizzas, kebabs, pub food and a small supermarket are all available less than a mile away in Stockbridge town centre via a quiet bridleway. Please note that there's a clay pigeon shooting range half a mile away and therefore there may be some noise from that heard on site (mainly on Saturdays, but sometimes on other days).

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This is the 3rd year we've come back to Stockbridge, everyone is friendly, the toilets are clean and tidy, filled up regularly with loo roll etc, multiple sinks for washing up, enough space for tents and event shelters.. my children played in the park from 9am till late because it was there within view and they were forever using imaginary play! This year was different for us with no campfires or bbqs but that didn't stop us from having nice evening meals! Has a freezer to use at your own risk as the same as a USB port to charge phones, tablets and rechargeable batteries for phones.

Disliked There is no WiFi but doesn't stop the signal from connecting outside if you have 4/5G!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site is simple but has everything you need!
The toilets are clean and showers were hot.
There is a washing up area and a freezer to put cool blocks in.
There is a charging station with multiple USB ports for any devices.
Although it said in the welcome email you had to take rubbish home, there were bins including recycling, and somewhere to dispose of your BBQ coals
There is even a dog wash!
Our kids loved the little play park, and as it is a small site you feel comfortable letting them run off to play.
The wardens would walk round and check we were ok and remind us how to contact them if we had issues. They were really friendly and helpful.
We couldn't have a fire because of how dry the grass is, but that was absolutely understandable.
There is some distant road noise, but nothing really heard at night and didn't impact our stay.
We went for a walk in to Stockbridge which is a lovely little village, and is clearly signposted at the campsite.
The stargazing is incredible!
We had a fantastic stay, thank you!

Disliked Nothing, I would highly recommend.

Liked Lovely campsite in a beautiful area. Very family friendly with a nice park for kids to play at. Toilets and showers were clean and showers were hot! Both the owner and warden were very friendly and helpful. Short walk to Stockbridge which had lots of pubs and some lovely shops. We loved it and will definitely be back.

Local attractions

For greenery and gardens, try Houghton Lodge (five minutes' drive), a small-scale spot dating back to the late 18th century in a gorgeous riverside location. The grounds at Mottisfont (15 minutes), a National Trust-managed house and garden, may be a bit grander in scale, but they're in a relaxed country location and aren't too big for a day out with young kids. This part of the world has lots of military connections, so how about a trip to the Army Flying Museum (10 minutes), or to Winchester (20 minutes) and its regimental collections in Peninsula Square? Inspired to try a bit of target practice yourself? The Spitfire Shoot (five minutes) can sort you with clay pigeon sessions (mostly on Saturdays, but sometimes at other times too). A little bit further away there are world-class attractions like Stonehenge (25 minutes), a must-see when visiting this part of the world, as well as family-focused options like Paultons Park (30 minutes), a theme park, and the interactive exhibits at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke (30 minutes).
