  • Rural dog-friendly adults-only site in Sherfield English
  • Half an hour's drive from Salisbury and 10 minutes from the New Forest
  • Cosy country pub within a 15-minute stroll
To Hampshire for a holiday in a rather relaxed kid-free spot? Meadow Tree Farm is a nearly-wild site with basic facilities on a working beef farm. Friendly and adults-only, it is spread over 21 acres on the edge of the village of Sherfield English, about 10 minutes' drive from Romsey. There's plenty of space for you (and any doggie companions you may have brought along) to chill out on site and, most importantly, a cosy country pub a gentle 15-minute stroll away. Fishing lakes are next door and there are fab trails for ramblers and cyclists a few miles away in the New Forest National Park. Back at base the laidback vibe is preserved by keeping facilities to a minimum, but the essentials are all in place, including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Sounds good? You'd better be quick: Meadow Tree Farm is a pop-up site that's only open for a limited amount of time each year.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked: The camping areas were lovely. Really nice wild feel and layout. Space dedicated for larger groups.

We managed to find an available firepit on the second night, which was really great.

Just on the edge of the new forest - perfect for going exploring and less than an hour to the beach.

Disliked: Self acknowledged by owner, the toilets, single shower for whole site, and washing up facility are on their last legs (due to be replaced once planning permission can be secured) but until then a bit ramshackle and could be cleaner.

Work in the adjacent farmyard (machinery, chainsaws) disturbed the peace both evenings, and there seemed to be an industrial fan running all night.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and I'm sorry you were not aware that we are a working farm. machinery is often used to tend to the animals we try to keep it's use as short as possible. The fan you heard is for our environmentally controlled calf unit and is on all the time we have young calves in as far as we are aware this doesn't normally cause a disturbance to our guests this is the first it has been mentioned to us. And a chainsaw was used for under 15,minutes.
The toilets are an issue that we are aware of and and trying to deal with to the best of our abilities. We also make all guests aware of the situation on arrival if not beforehand via email. The floor is often muddy especially when it has been raining. But the sinks, toilets and shower are usually clean. This weekend in particular I was present and on site constantly checking in I am unsure why If you had any issues you did not mention them to myself while you were onsite.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked: The pitch and the area was lovely, the tent area had lots of spaces for tents, but due to the trees and layout means there was plenty of privacy. The owner was really nice and friendly. the facilities were clean and tidy. Would defiantly come back again!

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked: A very pleasant location. A nice lake nearby.

Disliked: Tbh i was working in the area and up at 5am, so early to bed. There were numerous campers enjoying a social weekend, and while i would have been exactly the same in their shoes, it was not ideal for my purposes, so i would not stay again for work. The toilets were unisex, and i have not seen this before, so it was unusual at first.

Bring your boots along, for there’s much rural rambling to be done in the New Forest National Park around a 10-minute drive from Meadow Tree Farm. Bike trails run through the forest too, and you can saddle up to see the wildlife from horseback at a riding centre a few minutes’ drive from the site. Other open-air activities nearby include teeing off at one of the golf courses within a 15-minute drive or swinging through the trees at the Go Ape park half an hour away. Sailing lessons and boat trips can be had from Southampton or Lymington, both within a 45-minute drive. For history-infused days out, head to Sailsbury or pay a visit to Romsey Abbey, Breamore House or the vintage car collection at Beaulieu, all of which are within a half an hour’s drive. For animal antics, Marwell Zoo is also about half an hour away.
