Jubilee Camping: Cows in the neighbouring field

General

  • Quiet rural site 10 minutes' walk from the pub in Damerham
  • A 15-minute drive from the New Forest, half an hour from Bournemouth
  • Firepits for hire and local breakfast produce to order

Heaps of space, local pub, starry skies by night – there’s much to celebrate at lovely Jubilee Camping, in the village of Damerham on the border of Dorset and Hampshire.

You may like to raise a toast in honour of the site’s cracking location, within easy reach of the New Forest National Park, the old city of Salisbury and the beaches around Bournemouth. Or perhaps you’d prefer to pay homage to the relaxed vibe, which welcomes kids and dogs and encourages barbecues or campfires (firepits are available to hire, and you can stock up on firewood to feed the flames).

There can be few finer ways to kick off your day than the smell of a cooked breakfast sizzling away – have a word in the ear of one of the friendly folk on site to order local produce (bacon, sausages, eggs, bread, milk) to make it just a tad better. For other meals, shops, takeaways and restaurants are three miles away in Cranborne or Fordingbridge, and a fab local pub is 10 minutes’ walk away (serving up treats from craft beers to cream teas).

In keeping with the traditional setup, there’s not a huge raft of facilities here, but the basics are well tended – toilets, hot showers, water points and plenty of space for parking.

Friendly, helpful staff. Good facilities and location.

    Disliked:

One thing to improve would be to install a few more sinks for people to have somewhere to brush their teeth as the 2 sinks in the toilet block were not enough, and the water was neither drainjng well and water from taps was dripping only rather than running, making it awkward to brush teeth there.

Space, site and facilities and could use a fire pit. The double decker serving pizza, hog roast, burgers and breakfast baps was a real bonus, as was the little bar hut. Had a fantastic time, can’t recommend highly enough 🙂

The countryside surrounding and the bar onsite was really lovely.

    Disliked:

That their animals are frequently let into the areas that are then open for tent pitches - meant the field was covered in animal poo which I get is part of rural life - but wasn’t so great when you have small children who want to play outside by your tent and who aren’t able to notice and dodge all the poo!

Also, the water for the sink in the toilets was rarely working enough to wash your hands properly - was mostly just a trickle.

Basic farm camping at it's best.06/08/2022

We really enjoyed our stay at this off the beaten track, pop-up farmer site. There was loads of room and our hosts were lovely. The plumbed in loos and showers are basic but functional and are cleaned daily. There is the opportunity to buy icecreams and beers when the bar is open. (Not every day)
The highlight of our stay was realising that the site is superb for star gazing as it does not have any light pollution.
The Shetland ponies in the paddock next to the loos are very cute and add to the atmosphere.

    Disliked:

Only open 28 days a year!
This is not a site for nervous drivers. The location is very rural so mobile/GPS signal is spotty and you need to be comfortable driving down single track country lanes with passing places. The entrance was easily overlooked from one direction and is blind when pulling out onto the road.
The generator for the icecream freezer is quite noisy but does not run all the time.
You may be in for a cool/cold shower if the hot water runs out before you get there.

This site is fantastic, the owners are very welcoming, along with their team. They cant do enough for you. There is a pop up bar which is fabulous & we tried the pizzas on the saturday night & they are worth every penny. We also had the breakfast rolls. The prices are reasonable & it has a lovely atmosphere. The toilets & showers are clean, in fact the entire site is. This was our second visit & we will be returning again next year.
There are not any local shops nearby do make sure you stock up as the food is available Friday & Saturday.
There are plenty of walks & a local pub 10 minutes walk.
