Lots of space to spread out
Not a cloud in the sky
The grass has been cut, ready to welcome new guests
Well-maintained grass pitches

  • Simple, spacious pitches in rural Hampshire; kids and dogs welcome
  • Winchester, Watercress Line and riding centre within 20 minutes' drive
  • Barbecues permitted; several family-run pubs nearby for eating out
Laidback and friendly are the key words at Barton View, in the handsome Hampshire countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Alresford. It’s a pick-your-own pitch setup here, and there’s plenty of space to choose from, all of it with fine rural views towards Winchester by day and dark skies for star-spotting by night. The owners have allocated a minimum of six metres between pitches here, so you can afford to spread out a little and make yourselves at home, perhaps bringing along a firepit to do a bit of cooking and keep warm while you enjoy the stunning sunsets. Dogs are welcome at Barton View (as long as they’re kept on a lead) and there’s plenty of space for kids to play or look out for wildlife – deer can often be seen in neighbouring fields, and there may be buzzards, kites and kestrels overhead. Alresford is a good hub for restaurants and cafés, and there are several family-run pubs close to the site too so you shouldn’t go short of places to eat or drink nearby. If you’d rather go down the self-catering route, bring along a barbecue and pick up supplies at the shops in town or the local farm shop. Days out nearby? There’s plenty to choose from here, including rides on the Watercress Line, historic strolls around Winchester, walks in the South Downs National Park and animal encounters at Marwell Zoo.

What customers say

Barton View offers a peaceful, spacious camping experience with exceptionally clean, quirky horse-box facilities. Visitors highlight the friendly and accommodating owners, the relaxed atmosphere, and the well-maintained field. While some noted the limited number of showers and toilets, this was generally not an issue due to the site's quiet nature. The location is praised for its beauty and proximity to walks and attractions. Negatives are minimal, with some mentioning freshly cut grass and potential for limited facilities if busy.

Liked Enjoyed a great weekend camping at Barton View. Hayley and Nick are really friendly and welcoming, and create a very relaxed vibe. Plenty of space, facilities kept in great order and the flat well maintained field was great for games. Will definitely be going back.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Peaceful, lovely walks from site and good location for visiting nearby attractions and towns. Toilets and showers very clean and hosts very welcoming and helpful.

Disliked Not a dislike, but in the busy period you may have to wait a little time as only one shower at the site. When we were there we had no problems at all.

Liked Very friendly and welcoming Hosts. Could pitch wherever you wanted to, so nice and relaxed from the outset. Spotless facilities, cleverly located in horse boxes with top notch hardware and good quality loo roll, branded soap & paper towelling. Fantastic shower.
Beautiful spot in a field next to horses and sheep. Excellent 4G internet signal. Whats not to like!
