General
- Simple, spacious pitches in rural Hampshire; kids and dogs welcome
- Winchester, Watercress Line and riding centre within 20 minutes' drive
- Barbecues permitted; several family-run pubs nearby for eating out
Laidback and friendly are the key words at Barton View, in the handsome Hampshire countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Alresford. It’s a pick-your-own pitch setup here, and there’s plenty of space to choose from, all of it with fine rural views towards Winchester by day and dark skies for star-spotting by night.
The owners have allocated a minimum of six metres between pitches here, so you can afford to spread out a little and make yourselves at home, perhaps bringing along a firepit to do a bit of cooking and keep warm while you enjoy the stunning sunsets. Dogs are welcome at Barton View (as long as they’re kept on a lead) and there’s plenty of space for kids to play or look out for wildlife – deer can often be seen in neighbouring fields, and there may be buzzards, kites and kestrels overhead.
Alresford is a good hub for restaurants and cafés, and there are several family-run pubs close to the site too so you shouldn’t go short of places to eat or drink nearby. If you’d rather go down the self-catering route, bring along a barbecue and pick up supplies at the shops in town or the local farm shop.
Days out nearby? There’s plenty to choose from here, including rides on the Watercress Line, historic strolls around Winchester, walks in the South Downs National Park and animal encounters at Marwell Zoo.
It’s worth noting that this site does not have toilets or showers, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient on that front when staying here.
