  • Large, family-friendly site surrounded by meadows in East Sussex
  • A 15-minute drive from Hastings and Rye
  • Firepit hire, picnic area and barbecue on site
Surrounded by open meadows and lush, green scenery, Oak Valley Camping is the sort of site where you should be able to get some proper rest and relaxation. The simple, peaceful site has spacious back-to-basics pitches in the countryside two miles from Pett Level beach. There are also walking trails through the surrounding woodland and at the nearby lakes. The family-friendly site is away from busy tourist hordes but easily accessible by car to locations like Rye and Hastings, both 15 minutes' drive away, and destinations across the High Weald National Landscape. Coastal walks are a short drive away, too. There’s loads of space at Oak Valley Camping for small sorts (and big sorts) to run around, and a picnic area with tables and a barbecue for sizzling up lunch or dinner. Can’t be faffed? Two pubs serving food are close to the site. The site amenities block has clean toilets and showers with hot water. A washing-up area is also available for guests’ use.

Liked Location - beautiful forest just next to the pitch, beach 5 minutes drive, lovely pub 5 minutes drive as well.
Facilities were clean. Loads of space.
Yes it is hilly, but due to this campers are not on top of each other.

Disliked Nothing.

Rosie 2 bedroom lodge

Liked Beautiful surroundings and ancient woods for a walk. Very clean and tidy in the lodges. Comfortable furniture. Very quiet and no dogs which was great. We loved the lodges and the view. Owner was friendly and helpful on the phone. Left alone to be at peace. Which was great and perfect.

Disliked Some of the cooking pans need to be replaced. Very old and damaged. The fridge in the lodge was leaking and did not shut properly.

A few more play activities for small children would be great. A slide or other equipment. Broken swing was disappointing.

Phone number on my email was incorrect but managed to communicate. I would send messages directly to phone messages as well as whats app.

From the manager: Thank you, Amanda, for such a thoughtful and detailed review — we’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay in the lodges, the peaceful setting, and the walks through the ancient woodland. It’s lovely to know you felt comfortable and able to properly switch off, which is exactly what we hope to offer.

We also really appreciate you highlighting the areas where we need to improve. We’re sorry about the condition of some of the cooking pans and the issue with the fridge door in Elsa — that’s not the standard we expect, and we’ll be replacing and repairing those immediately. Your comments about safety are taken seriously and will be addressed straight away.

Thank you as well for the feedback on children’s play equipment. We are actively looking at ways to improve this area, and your suggestions are really helpful in shaping what we add next.

We’re also sorry about the incorrect phone number on your booking details — we’ll make sure this is corrected and that we improve how we display contact information across all platforms, including WhatsApp messaging going forward.

It’s wonderful to hear you would come back again. We’d love to welcome you back in the future with everything running even better for your next stay.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review.

We’re really pleased to hear that you and your son enjoyed your getaway and made the most of the space, fire pits, and our close proximity to the beach. It’s especially nice to hear your kind comments about the team and that you found the site relaxed and welcoming – that’s exactly the atmosphere we aim to create.

Liked Perfect location, good space, nice camping for families.

Disliked too hot water in the shower, really difficult to have a shower for my little ones, all fire pits occupied and there was no one to ask for more

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review — we’re really pleased you enjoyed the location and found it a good family camping space.

We’re sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with the shower temperature. That’s not the standard we aim for, especially for families with little ones, and we’ll be looking into the controls and checks to make sure the water temperature is consistent and safe for everyone.

We’re also sorry that all the fire pits were in use during your stay. We do try to ensure there are enough available and that guests can request additional ones if needed, so it’s disappointing to hear there wasn’t anyone available to help on the day. We’ll be reviewing how we manage this during busy periods so guests can get support when they need it.

We really appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve, and we hope to welcome you back again for a smoother experience next time.

Liked Good and most relaxed time

Disliked No enough showers and toalet, very noisy at weekends. So if you need peace like we are, don't go in weekends time.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

We’re glad to hear that you had a relaxed and enjoyable stay overall. Creating a peaceful countryside getaway is exactly what we aim for, so it’s great to know that came across during your visit.

We’re sorry, however, that you felt there were not enough showers and toilets and that noise levels were higher at weekends. We do understand how important peace and adequate facilities are, especially for guests looking for a quieter experience. While weekends can be busier due to demand, we appreciate your feedback and will continue reviewing how we manage capacity and noise to help improve the experience for all guests.

Thank you again for your honest comments. We appreciate your feedback and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back at a quieter time in the future.

Kind regards,
The Oak Valley Camping Team

Local attractions

Although it’s in a secluded spot, Oak Valley Camping is close to some splendid parts of Sussex, including its coast and seaside towns. The medieval Cinque Port of Rye, with yachts at the harbour, Castle Museum, nature reserves and Rye Harbour SSSI, is within a short drive. Also, speed along to old Hastings, 15 minutes away, for its Old Town and fishing quarters, beach and arcades, Priory Meadow shopping centre, two cliff railways and the Hastings Fisherman's Museum at Rock-a-Nore. Just outside town, A Smuggler's Adventure at St Clements Caves covers the smuggling history of this part of the coast, as well as the caves’ setting as a hiding and refuge place throughout the ages and during World War II. There’ll likely be a festival around whichever time of the year you’re visiting: a few options throughout the East Sussex year are the Hastings Wine and Seafood Festival, Rye Bay Scallop Week, Pirate Day, May Day and the Hastings Old Town Carnival Week, along with loads of other smaller events. The Oak Valley team also recommends a wander around Winchelsea, the town with a boat and jetski launch, ancient history and a small museum.
