Rural views but with an extra dose of comfort? Make your way to the mighty-fine East Sussex countryside, where Scallow Campsite sits in a rural spot between East Hoathly and Waldron. The glamping pods here are really rather cosy and they each sleep two (either close friends or a couple). Each one is equipped with a gas burner, refrigerator, TV and wifi, so you’ll be well set for facilities and entertainment. Supplies are on hand at a farm shop 10 minutes' drive away and there are more shops in Uckfield or Heathfield, which are both 15 minutes’ drive away. Countryside rambles? Sorted – this is an excellent base for such things. For gentler days, there are historical houses and gardens within 25 minutes’ drive of the site. As for those wanting to visit the coast (for fish and chips, a dip or a day of games by the sea, perhaps), the lively scenes at Eastbourne (35 minutes) and Brighton (40 minutes) are also well within reach. Whenever you fancy yourself a pint or a glass of rosé, or perhaps a lush dinner, it's handy to know there’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk away from the pods and another two pubs five and 10 minutes' drive away respectively. For those times when you’re taking on the role of chef yourself (or just fancy keeping warm while you sip a glass of wine), the outside of each pod has a decking area with a chiminea and a barbecue. Other handy facilities include separate showers and toilets, together with an outdoors washing-up area served by hot water.

Liked Impressed by the quality of facilities. Nice, quiet location.

Disliked Lack of attention of owners - no one there to check us in, no information provided on which pitch we were supposed to be in and couldn’t contact owners - had to change plans as a result. No toilet paper in the toilets and no one on site to sort it out. A campsite can’t run itself.

From the manager: This review does not reflect what we offer here at Scallows and very disappointed to get a 5/10. We have consistently have excellent reviews and have won Campsite of the Year for East Sussex 6 years in a row with Corporate livewire. We have a self check in here at Scallow. As we only have six pitches here we are unable to have someone here waiting for guests to arrive. Each pitch has a board with the name on it, indicating which pitch the guest is staying on. The numbers of the owner and Housekeeper are on the noticeboard and on the information provided. Julie did get a message and replaced the toilet roll. We have changed the dispense from leaving out toilet rolls (which were being taken) to a dispenser that has rolls of 300m of toilet roll. We apolgise for an oversite regarding toilet roll, we are well aware that a campsite cant run itself and take great pride in what we offer here at Scallows. You only have to read the review we get on Pitchup Campsites, Caravan and Camping Club, Booking dot com and Airbnb.

Liked Location and facilities. When you arrive names are added to boards on the pitch which is great, but not clear in booking confirmation.

Liked A little gem of a site with a nice rural location in what would appear a lovely little village. Facilities were great and very clean. We arrived late and the pitch was clearly marked for us ready use. I wished we had stayed a little longer, but it was a quick one night stay to attend a wedding the next day.

I would definitely recommend and would love to go back again.

Liked Peace and quiet. Shower and toilet block was very clean and well fitted, once you found them

Disliked It would be nice to have a simple plan of the site, so that you didn't have to ask others where the toilets were.
Some information about things to do, rather than a blurred map would also be good

We provide fibre wifi so that guests can access the internet easily to find out what is in the local area. We provide a map of the footpaths in the area so that guests are able to walk the local routes. The map is taken from the website footpaths.co.uk. The toilets and showers are located in the yard 50 meters from the campsite and are clearly marked on the doors.
