Rural views but with an extra dose of comfort? Make your way to the mighty-fine East Sussex countryside, where Scallow Campsite sits in a rural spot between East Hoathly and Waldron. The glamping pods here are really rather cosy and they each sleep two (either close friends or a couple). Each one is equipped with a gas burner, refrigerator, TV and wifi, so you’ll be well set for facilities and entertainment. Supplies are on hand at a farm shop 10 minutes' drive away and there are more shops in Uckfield or Heathfield, which are both 15 minutes’ drive away. Countryside rambles? Sorted – this is an excellent base for such things. For gentler days, there are historical houses and gardens within 25 minutes’ drive of the site. As for those wanting to visit the coast (for fish and chips, a dip or a day of games by the sea, perhaps), the lively scenes at Eastbourne (35 minutes) and Brighton (40 minutes) are also well within reach. Whenever you fancy yourself a pint or a glass of rosé, or perhaps a lush dinner, it's handy to know there’s a pub 20 minutes’ walk away from the pods and another two pubs five and 10 minutes' drive away respectively. For those times when you’re taking on the role of chef yourself (or just fancy keeping warm while you sip a glass of wine), the outside of each pod has a decking area with a chiminea and a barbecue. Other handy facilities include separate showers and toilets, together with an outdoors washing-up area served by hot water.

Liked We have been to this site a number of times as we love the peace and quiet. Also we enjoy the walk to the Kings Head in the village of East Hoathly. The pitches are always well kept and the shower and toilet block is spotless.

Liked It was a wonderful site just five pitches.
Very well looked after the shower block and toilets were excellent.
It made for a most relaxing time overlooking green fields with sheep in.

Disliked The only thing was I wished the grass had been mowed but everything else was just perfect.

From the manager: Hi thank you for your review. In the seven years I have run this site, I have never had anyone comment on the length of the grass! The grass is cut regularly. During this summer the grass took a pounding with the lack of rain. When it started to rain we decided that we would let it grow and only cut weekly. It was unfortunate that we missed a cut the other week due to holiday. The grass has now been cut. In the spring we leave a few cuts so all the spring wild flowers can grow like buttercup wood anemone, bluebells and primroses.

Would use this site again if visiting the area thanks.

Liked Shower / bathroom facilities thank you. Very clean and taken care of by users.
Parking area hard surfaces were great.

Disliked Something that would be beneficial is cost effective solar lights on each of the 5 pitches, which light up the pitch number. I arrive very late in the dark and couldn’t see my pitch number, so would be a cost effective thing to resolve this thanks.

Liked Impressed by the quality of facilities. Nice, quiet location.

Disliked Lack of attention of owners - no one there to check us in, no information provided on which pitch we were supposed to be in and couldn’t contact owners - had to change plans as a result. No toilet paper in the toilets and no one on site to sort it out. A campsite can’t run itself.

From the manager: This review does not reflect what we offer here at Scallows and very disappointed to get a 5/10. We have consistently have excellent reviews and have won Campsite of the Year for East Sussex 6 years in a row with Corporate livewire. We have a self check in here at Scallow. As we only have six pitches here we are unable to have someone here waiting for guests to arrive. Each pitch has a board with the name on it, indicating which pitch the guest is staying on. The numbers of the owner and Housekeeper are on the noticeboard and on the information provided. Julie did get a message and replaced the toilet roll. We have changed the dispense from leaving out toilet rolls (which were being taken) to a dispenser that has rolls of 300m of toilet roll. We apolgise for an oversite regarding toilet roll, we are well aware that a campsite cant run itself and take great pride in what we offer here at Scallows. You only have to read the review we get on Pitchup Campsites, Caravan and Camping Club, Booking dot com and Airbnb.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Just to be clear, the dip is in the camber of the road and not on the driveway leaving the site. This appeared over the summer with the heat and the tarmac became malleable and spread making a slight raise in the camber. It is in one small located . This has been reported to highways, but would not think it would be a priority.
