  • Peaceful farm site in a quiet corner of Merseyside
  • A 10-minute drive from Southport and 20 minutes from Formby
  • Play area and small pool on site; walking distance to farm shop
Jacksmere Camping is a peaceful farm site tucked away in a quiet corner of Merseyside, with flat and well-kept grounds, a good clutch of facilities and plenty of local footpaths for walks short or long. This family-friendly site has a straw-bale play area where the kids can cavort in a safe environment, along with a small pool that gets put up and filled daily in warmer weather and a bouncy castle that is inflated for hour in the morning and again in the evening. There are ponies on site too, and that means that while dogs are also welcome here, you'll need to make sure they're kept on leads at all times. On the facilities front, the site has wifi and clean and functional toilets and showers. For cooking and keeping warm, you're welcome to bring a barbecue and prep some self-cooked alfresco dinners, or gather your gang around a campfire and tell stories as the sun goes down (fires are only allowed in the site's own rental firepits; please don't bring your own). There's wood for sale on site as well (please only use wood bought on site). This well-connected site is an easy 10-minute drive from Southport town centre and beach, a popular seaside spot where there's much to see and do. Handily, the site is also a 20-minute stroll from two restaurants and an organic farm shop, while the Lord Street shopping area can be reached within about 10 minutes by car.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We both liked the facilities that Jacksmere camping had to offer, the views overlooking the neighbouring fields were amazing, they had a swimming pool and bouncy castle for kids and even if you didn’t book an electric pitch they had a few outdoor sockets for you to recharge your items. There is electric pitches you can pay for extra as-well. The farmer gave the children a ride around on the quad and made them really happy lovely people and good campsite.

Disliked: The field was rather long and could have done with a cut as our car is quite low and collected all the flowers and grass as we drove to our pitch, when booking you get told the bathrooms are cleaned every half an hour but we didn’t see them once get cleaned, the swimming pool for children was green and children couldn’t go into it. The campsite also was a pony field where the ponies would be let out to roam around so don’t forget to close the gate .There are electric pitches however these are under the trees and putting a tent under the trees to let the birds poo on the tent and windbreaks isn’t the best. The field was not quite flat and the pitches are just anywhere you like.

From the manager: It’s the end of season for camping so we close the pool as it was to cold and the grass is no longer cut as it has to feed the ponies over the winter months Come during the active season and you will see a different picture

Absolutely poor.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nothing, didnt even get to stay.

Disliked: How he answered the phone when deposit was paid but when calling up on arrival they hang up and dint answer. We left a review on google too and they were quick to answer advising that they do not take deposits, yeah right. Went to another camping site down the road, and it wasnt the first time they've heard this story. Rude and unprofessional as per their google repsone, almost like children who cannot take responsibility for their actions. 0/10 stay away, much MUCH nicer people down the road.

From the manager: Every once in a while , all, sites get a nasty review. This is usually because of their own personal problems When it’s to me and unjustified - I call a spade a spade We do not charges deposits - that’s a matter if you and them , book through a website We do not collect monies at the gates - unlike others We wait until people have pitched up settled down and are happy Which is in 99 % of cases The only scammers were this lot as they drove in - the site was off season and not that that many tents , so peaceful and quiet . They wanted a noisy rave atmosphere - that I told them was NOT going to happen and off they went - then promptly slagged me off , having not paid me Welcome to not come and back

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great site, we'll definitely be back! Large open field with free roam ponies which our son loved!! Toilets and showers did their job with nice hot water in the shower. The owner was really friendly. we had a good chat with him, and he stopped by each pitch to see if everyone was alright. Firepits and wood are reasonable, the wood burned for hours!! Overall a great site and we'll definitely be back. Just a reminder to take bug spray!!

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely fella who owns the place nice size field pick where you pitch the horses are brilliant the kids loved them especially when they came to say hello at the tent door Definitely don't leave food out the horses are very cheeky Really quiet at night no noises no loud music everybody was polite Fridge for beer plugs for phone charging

Disliked: The horseflies!! Make sure you take repellant as they are wicked things that are very hungry!! Toilets need a sign as they are slight hidden and hard to find for the first time

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review Am glad you enjoyed yourself But those were not horse flies as they by nature only zero in on horses They were everyday midges

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Owner was friendly and helpful

Disliked: Not well signed from main road Expensive for what we got Bonfire with foam, rubbish etc £20 for a fire pit with wood and £20 for an extra basket of wood Paddling pool filthy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We deliberately don’t sign post because of the chance of large groups of unwanted people gate crashing You know whom I am talking about ! Just call us and we will guide you in Prices are reflective of the area we are in Wood , firepits and lighters are 20 and not 20 just for wood. Have never charged that, in fact most got it for the whole weekend for the price Pool was closed because some kids dumped a load of mud into pool Bonfire has no foam just wood and cloth

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Owner was friendly and was great with the children on the site.

Disliked: Supposed to be a quiet site. Was Like a festival. Music playing till 2.30 am and barely slept due to the parties in the tents. Noisy and lots of groups camping together. Don’t bother booking if you want a quiet site. Not peaceful as advertised. After reading the reviews on returning home - the same thing happened in august last year. So not an isolated incident. Owners should be checking the site at night regularly and stopping it. Just a money making site sadly. Facilities very basic

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: As we discussed in site the August bank holiday is a very busy and joyful occasion with families and kids I did ask to have the music turned down as you requested and it was , how ever you chose the naughty corner for the young at heart in the far side of the site ! We have to cater for different types If you want absolute silence , then you come to the front of the site Be reasonable. Am sure you will be back as the kids had a great time

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We could pick where we pitched, owner was friendly and came round and spoke to everyone once we’d pitched, toilets were actually the cleanest we’d visited throughout our weekend stay including Tesco and the Safari park! Other visitors were friendly and chatty too, the field has horses but they don’t bother anyone and keep ur near their paddocks, the field is flat open and enclosed with hedges, the owners have a pool and bounce castle out for the kids, there’s an extension to charge from near the toilet blocks if needed and a sink for washing, we used our own Wi-Fi/data but this was also on offer if needed, overall a great place to camp! Even tho it rained for us, would defo camp here again if over that way

Disliked: Nothing really although if you haven’t visited before you’ll probably drive past it, and once you get turned round and drive in the drive you’re still wondering if you’re at the right place, we had to let ourselves in and go find someone, it could definitely benefit from some better signage from the road and also into the campsite itself

From the manager: THANK YOU FOR DOING JUSTICE TO OUR SITE WE DELIBERATELY DONT PUT SIGNS UP TO AVOID GETTING GATE CRASHED BY THE WRONG “type “ OF PEOPLE
