Decisions can be tricky sometimes. Do you go for a holiday near the bright lights of the city… or choose to get away from it all and chill in the countryside? Do both, sensible sorts will say – you’re on holiday, after all. So amble your way over to Stanley Villa Farm Fishing and Camping, to loll in a cosy camping pod and yet be only 15 minutes’ drive from the busy centre of Blackpool; it’ll be an illuminating decision. The pods at this glamping site are in Lancashire’s rural Fylde area. You can overlook the lake with a glass of wine and a barbecue while the sun goes down, or sit dreamily all day with rod in hand: the lake has carp to land, and is surrounded by wildlife and native trees. All very serene and peaceful, but still a quick hop from Blackpool’s beaches and attractions. Stanley Villa pods are fully insulated, come with two beds and mattresses and have a battery-powered lantern. Power sockets to keep everything charged are in the Lakeside Lodge, where there’s also a kitchen and common room, plus plenty of up-to-date sparkling clean showers and toilets and three wetrooms. A café is nearby, and a traditional pub with large beer garden is within walking distance.

The hot tubs are designed for two people maximum. The minimum age is 14, and under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Two bags of wood and kindling are provided and the hot tubs are available to use until 10.30pm. They take up to 2 hours to get to temperature and are wood-fired tubs so there are no bubbles or jets.

The hot food on offer is an absolute winner! Camp fires and pizza 😍

It's our second stay here, I'd say of many more! Definitely recommend.

Liked: The area was easy to find

Disliked: The toilets was disgusting the shawers had spiders in them the cabin had mould on one side also the noise from drunken famirly was horrible till late at night and the staff who did the shop inside the place tried to scam my misses out of more money for hot drinks by saying the price on the board was wrong and charged her more it was not till I went back there saying they had no right to do that that they gave me some money back for over charging her and scamming her out of more money

From the manager: Hello, Thank you for your review. We did had several issues during your stay that are worth pointing out. Firstly, one of our members of staff, a young girl, felt very threatened by you and another camper felt she had to stay with her to keep her safe. The issue you had was that you didn't get any free firewood. Our staff member had to point out that the free firewood was just for the Pods with Hot Tubs (which you weren't staying in). Secondly, you threatened another one of our female staff members because cans of pop had gone up by 25p. Thirdly, you complained about several other places (not here), and seemed to enjoy complaining in gereral. There were other issues but I don't feel the need to go on anymore. Hopefully people will have made their own minds up by this point. For the first two points, you are blacklisted from our site. The first for several years. In terms of the specific points you raised in your "review"; The showers are cleaned very regularly, and we have a replacement scheme underway for brand new facilities coming very soon. There were no other guests that mentioned 'noise from a drunken family'. Staff who do several walks around the site didn't notice anything, and security who do final checks didn't mention anything, but regardless, apologies if this disturbed you. I hope you can find other more suitable sites in the future.

Liked: We visit with two younger boys. Was an absolute lovely place to be and really relaxing. The boys loved playing meeting friends and feeding animals. We will def come back with the boys and alone as we both fish. Caught two lovely carp each whilst there. Thankyou to the owner, very welcoming place to stay. Cute pods. Nice little shop and clean amenities. See you again soon def. I have pictures to upload but it’s telling me they are not the correct size. Some nice fish and pics from our stay. Liked: Amazing staff, welcoming atmosphere, amazing views, so peaceful, we wish we booked longer, we will definitely be going back.

Disliked: Nothing really, when you camp and glamp for as long as we have you learn that its not a 5* hotel, although to be fair most sites we use are better than hotels, including stanley villa farm.

Liked: Absolutely amazing place, pure serenity. Pods were spacious for the 2 of us and our dog. We were lucky enough to have 2 days of sunshine too.

Local attractions

The area around Stanley Villa Farm has plenty to do for those who like the contemplative life, with heritage walks and bike rides around the coast, horse riding and kayaking, traditional country pubs to sample and several top golf clubs in Preston and the surrounding area. For a less contemplative day or three out, Blackpool is bursting with things to do for podders of all ages: the most well-known attractions here are probably the beach and the Pleasure Beach theme park, with the Blackpool Illuminations lighting up the sky each year from late August/early September. Once you’ve got the kids off the rides, take them along to gawk at the sharks and seahorses at the Sea Life Centre, splash down the slides at the Sandcastle Waterpark and take a wallaby walkabout at Blackpool Zoo; the famous Madame Tussauds on the Promenade should also be a hit. Preston is also well worth a visit for a day trip for five museums, the Beacon Fell Country Park and go-karting at the docks; cruise along on a canal trip or go to the Cheeky Monkeys or Rascals play centres for a family day out. A bit further afield, the county of Lancashire has the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, historic houses, theme parks and adventure parks all to explore, as well as the university city of Lancaster and the seafront at Morecambe Bay.
