  • Family-friendly site on a working dairy farm seven miles from Garstang
  • A 20-minute drive from Lancaster; half an hour from the Lake District
  • River, canal, pubs and shops within walking distance; more in Garstang
There’s a lot in the way of the countryside, cows and nearby seaside towns at Grazing Cow Stays. Here, you’ll be able to turn on your relaxation mode on a working dairy farm seven miles from Garstang and a few kilometres from an M6 junction, where the pitches are beside a milking parlour and calve shed (you’ll be able to watch them pottering about or see the milking unfold from the gallery). While it's a rural stay, you certainly won’t be far away from the life in the towns, whether that’s the seaside-style buzz in Morecambe 20 minutes’ drive away or Garstang, the world’s first fairtrade town, 15 minutes’ drive away. The Lake District in only half an hour’s drive away from here too for those of you with hikes and outdoor activities on your mind. On site, there are toilets and showers free of charge, hot and cold running water and dishwashing facilities for pots. All the grassy pitches have countryside views and if you’d like to switch things up with some waterside scenery, the river Lune is half an hour’s walk away or the canals are just 10 minutes’ walk away. There are shops, pubs and eateries in the local village a short walk away, but Garstang has a real foodie or shopping dive 15 minutes' drive away, including the market on Thursdays, supermarkets, restaurants, high street shops, pubs and a little further out, a garden centre.

Liked: Amazing view! Pod had everything you need. There is sofa bed so you don't have to bring air bed etc. There is a little kitchen area with kettle, microwave, little fridge and even a toaster! Electric BBQ outside is really nice. There is fire pit available for a cold night, its very private as well due to the location! Defo recomending and will stay there again, we loved it!

Disliked: There were a lot of spider webs but nothing unusual for a field!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really friendly welcome, thank you. Good level pitches. Clean site. Friendly campers. Very peaceful site - no noise - could hear the birds singing, not everyone else's radio! Watched the cows walk in and from milking - missed the opportunity to see them being milked - maybe do that next time! All in all, a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend! Thank you.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Peaceful and only a few people staying there. Could pitch where we wanted. Picnic benches! Lovely views and huge open space for playing. Easy to find from motorway. Very convenient for access to Lancaster, university and Morecambe. Lovely surroundings.

Disliked: A slight build up of rubbish by the end of the weekend as bins weren’t clearly marked. Only one shower available, but this wasn’t a huge problem as site was so quiet; toilets had run out of toilet roll at one point. Distant noise from motorway could be heard, but this would be the same anywhere round here.

Room with a View microlodge

Liked: Everything - nice pods, friendly owners, beautiful views, watched the cows being milked and saw some baby calfs. We liked it so much we booked an extra night while we were there and an extra pod for our friend to join us. I read some negative reviews and feel you should go and make your own mind up - very reasonable priced and good value for money - If you want a spotless 5*, stinging nettle free and well manicured lawns to walk to the the toilets - then pay more for it and go else where - not on a busy farm - the toilets were clean and tidy - much cleaner than some campsites I’ve been too, big flood light that activates when you get close - but if you want too, take a torch so you can see where your going, we used phone lights - we were happy there was no light pollution for our sleep. The toilets are close by so we didn’t have any issues. 2 have sinks in and one has a shower in so in that one you do have to either wash your hands in another cubicle or in the sink outside but not an issue for us - red hot water from all sinks and the shower at all times. Lots of loo roll available and hand soap. Close proximity to Lancaster uni and Cumbria uni, Aldi 10 min drive, spar 2 min drive up the road, 7 min drive to the stork pub that serves lovely food reasonably priced, and good variety of drinks. Glasson docks well worth a visit and if you walk up the hill beside the glasson dock restaurant - the view is beautiful - you can drive up there too for the view - and a smokehouse where you can buy various smoked foods to take home. They are building a tapas / micro brewery on the glasson dock so will look forward to going back to try that. We liked that you can free roam around the farm and go and see the animals being fed - owners are very passionate about what they do and they work very long hours and the farm is very busy - but they were always contactable by phone or text - and came to say hi a few times. At night time we used the WiFi to get Netflix on our iPads and no issues with connecting from either pod. We didn’t travel with kids but I’d say there’s plenty for them to see and do accompanied by an adult at all times with the tractors and farm traffic whizzing around - and fjord they can paddle in at the bottom of the site. We will definitely return again sometime soon, thank you for a lovely stay!

Disliked: Going home :)

Liked: Great location , friendly staff It is a hard working farm - if you come here don’t expect the Hilton Cabin has basic stuff you need Shower works and is nice and warm x3 toilets one including shower (could be cleaner, but there is a mop and bucket in it clean it ya self!, however you are on a farm it is muddy and has spiders!!😂😂) There are cows - moooo in the morning If you are not a camper or don’t like camping - don’t go here - coz the grass grows and in some parts there are nettles (shocker!) and there are flies they fly around and Bees and the occasional wasp (that also fly around) There are 3 cabins with great views of the countryside Went went into Gleason the little town not far away and the stork pub (yummy, food) There’s nice canal walks Good location for students as the Lancaster campus is about 10 mins away (drive) and also Cumbria uni campus is about 15 mins away , good location to get onto the M6
