  • Pop-up campsite in a scenic location by the Lancaster Canal
  • A 15-minute drive from Lancaster; Morecambe 25 minutes
  • Suitable for paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and fishing
The best thing about the waterside location of Glasson Dock Campsite? For some guests it will be the chance to chill out and watch canal boats chugging along or see wildlife flitting about. For others it’s all about the active options – this is a spot where you can launch canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, fish or find lovely canalside walks. This fab pop-up camping field is next to the Lancaster Canal, a few metres from Glasson Marina. As well as the canal, the river Lune is close by – and it’s not far to the Lancashire coast, perhaps best appreciated 25 minutes’ drive away at Morecambe Bay. The compact city of Lancaster (15 minutes) is close at hand too and has plenty of supermarkets, shops and places for dinner out. This simple site is equipped with functional portable toilets and cold outdoor showers and is a five-minute stroll from the various cafés and eateries of Glasson Dock, which is the starting point for a number of footpaths and bike trails. The campsite is a laidback place where dogs, barbecues and campfires are all allowed and you’ll have space for an awning or gazebo if you like. Travelling without a car? Glasson Dock Campsite is a few minutes' walk from a bus stop, where you can catch regular services to Lancaster and beyond.

An otherwise reasonable site ruined by the 10%. Oh! And grim toilets!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We arrived and the nice helpful chap gave us an overview of the site facilities. It’s a basic site but ideally suited for access to Glasson Dock, the canal and local shops.

Disliked: If you fall into one of the following demographics then this site is ideal when the weather is sunny:
1. You are a twenty year old man boy but in reality you are an eleven year old. You love your football and don’t care who knows it. If it hits your friend’s car repeatedly then that’s just funny. You also love your hoody and swearing loudly.
2. It’s your first time camping, and you have silk sheets. You also used to be a member of the Sea Cadets, but only for five weeks. This is something you need to tell your friends and half of the campsite every hour or so in between cackling like a witch and attempting introductory Karaoke at volume 11.
3. When you retire to bed for the early morning, you spend 10 minutes saying goodbye to your friends who will be less than 10m away and then proceed to complain how cold it is, despite it being a warm night.
4. You like staying up late and leaving no awkward conversational gaps (volume 11 again).
5. You like speaking / shouting / cackling to like minded people you’ve never met before especially after midnight.
6. You’re uncomfortable with periods of silence. These are to be avoided lest you realise how you are perceived by others.
7. You love kicking a football around and playing Justin Bieber interspersed with any tune with your favourite bass line. You’ve selected your Bluetooth speaker to maximise the low frequency section of each track so that the entire campsite can hear it, cos that’s the best part! You absolutely love falling asleep to Justin Bieber and chums with the music still at 11. When people shine a 2000 lumen headlight through your tent wall, and gently suggest you switch the music off at 3:30am, this is just part of the camping experience to be ignored whilst you are passed out. That is until you experience ‘Screaming Man’ from Spotify’s Annoying Noises playlist at level 12,Thank you, Spotify!
I was a bit disappointed that Blackout Crew’s Put a Donk on It, didn’t feature on anyone’s playlist. That would have elevated things a little.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great campsite, owner was very helpful and outgoing. He was constantly roaming around the site checking people in and answering questions people had. Clean water on site, toilets nice and clean and showers were great although they were cold is was still very refreshing. Enough space to choose from for your pitch, will definitely be returning.

Access to the canal from the actual campsite which is amazing, so don’t forget your paddle boards/kayaks etc. Pubs etc close walk on other side of canal.

Disliked: Nowt.
