General

  • Small, peaceful, rural site on a working family farm
  • Lovely views of the Bowland Fells
  • Well situated for walking and cycling

If you owned this popular, peaceful and lovely little family farm hidden deep in the Lancashire countryside, you'd likely do massive brags and not humble coughs about what's on offer. For example, might you want to do a bushcraft course or pick up a clutch of traditional countryside skills? Both are available to learn here from the friendly owners, who can also organise archery sessions for a fun-targeted farm camping break.

Humblescough Farm is a quiet family-friendly site in a wildlife haven, thoughtfully developed and maintained by owners Robert and Diana to attract as many local creatures as possible to its ancient bluebell wood, nature pond and range of different nature habitats.

Other farm features to brag about are the heated shower and toilet block kept to immaculate standards, a washing-up area, chemical disposal and recycling facilities, in line with the farm's environmental policy. Campfires are allowed and the dark skies here are most suitable for stargazing: yes, those two factoids are related.

Around the area, you might also want to stride or pedal off on one of the many countryside walks and bike rides surrounding the farm – a folder of local hikes and cycles is in the information hut along with brochures and info on local events and attractions.

Or try the local fishing lakes, Beacon Fells Country Park seven miles away, or possibly travel to a busier time at Blackpool...?

First and formost the owners. They were friendly and dedicated .
The site had many nice touches, such as the local produce with an honesty box. Facilities are comprehensive, clean and tidy. The site was quiet and peaceful on our one night stay.It is a viable stop not too far from the M6 although longer stays would be very pleasant.

Not recommended to stay in September any year, as we don't want it to be fully booked when we wish to return! !

Peaceful site, lovely views and good showers / toilets. Everything kept in excellent order by a very committed and extremely friendly couple Robert and Diane. Highly recommended and very well hidden caravan and camping site. Would definitely visit again. Liked the honesty box and the fact that there are several good security cameras situated all around the site. Strictly for adults only, nothing for children, but that's fine with us! Well done Robert and Diane on making this a Great little place to stay with our caravan!

    Disliked:

Only downside was access road from Nateby is very narrow with very few passing places.

Local attractions

From fishing to hiking, rollercoasters to canal boats, cities to countryside, there's lots to do here in lovely Lancs.

Humblescough Farm is in a most lucky location: it's close to the coast as well as cities like Blackpool, Preston and Lancaster, and near both Beacon Fell County Park and the Forest of Bowland. Fishing lakes and clay shooting are both close to the farm.

The closest town to your peaceful base is Garstang, lying halfway between Preston to the south and Lancashire to the north, about ten miles from each. This was the world's first Fairtrade Town, so those who'd guess there'd be a decent handful of decent shops in town would be bang on; café, restaurant and pub people should see themselves sorted too. Walkwise, head out of town along the River Wyre or Lancaster Canal.

Lancashire moorland, fells and villages are all within easy driving distance, as is the coastline of Morecambe Bay, a popular spot for scenery seekers and birdwatchers.

Blackpool is also a bright idea for a day trip: Sandcastle Water Park is the biggest indoors waterpark in the country if you want to do something under a roof.

Must see

  • Beacon Fell Country Park (6.3 miles)
