Hill House Farm Campsite: Woodland view

General

  • Adults-only site in Lancashire’s quiet Forest of Bowland fell country
  • A 15-minute drive to the Ribble Way and 40 minutes to Pen-y-Ghent
  • Grass pitches with spectacular views; pubs, shops and walks nearby

Can’t decide where you stand in the great debate about Yorkshire and Lancashire? Hedge your bets at Hill House Farm Camping, an adults-only site in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which has land in each country. Look one way and you’ll see Lancashire’s Pendle Hill, look the other and you’ll spot the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

Top that with a setting on meadow pitches at a working farm, and you’ve got a recipe for a peaceful stay amid glorious views, surrounded by sheep and cattle grazing in neighbouring fields. Should you feel the need to get active, Lancashire’s Easington Fell (15 minutes) and Yorkshire’s Pen-y-Ghent (40 minutes’ drive) are waiting to be conquered.

All these untamed landscapes and yet you’re only a 15-minute drive from Clitheroe (firmly in Lancashire), which has a slew of restaurants, bars and takeaways as well as a huge supermarket for stocking up provisions. There’s a foodie pub (delicious Yorkshire pudding) a five-minute drive away, and if you are too tired after the day’s activities to move, you can order in pizza too.

Basic amenities include portaloos, recycling and charging facilities for your devices. The number of pitches is tightly limited, so you’ll never feel on top of your neighbours on the camping field.

Please note

Guests under the age of 21 are not allowed on site.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Please note that the toilet facilities are unisex.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

How spacious the field was, the lovely owner Grace who helped us locate the farm and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and if we needed any help, the landscape and location, being surrounded by nature and animals, the stillness and peace and quiet, easy access to toilet and water, was perfect !!!

A peaceful, secluded campsite with a lovely host! We really enjoyed the stay here, Grace, the owner, even rang us in advance of our visit to make sure we had all the directions needed to find the site. Even so, the GPS location was spot on and we had no trouble. Grace greeted us an made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The site has a single, very clean portaloo, which given the fact we were the only campers there was perfect!

The location is absolutely lovely with views all around and only the sound of sheep and other wildlife, including plenty of owls and reindeer!

A short walk down the hill into Sawley village revealed a really good pub and some beautiful river views and an ancient abbey.

If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful location then this site is highly recommended.

The location is perfect for adventures and the site is on a working farm, living with the animals is so pure and relaxing.

There is a portaloo and fresh water tap but the great thing about here is that it is very much wild camping, but legal.

There's a great view to the bottom of the field, beautiful at sunrise.

Grace, the owner, is just clearly a wonderful human being. The check in was easy, she gives you space but also came to check to make sure we had everything. So sweet.

    We will stay again.

360 degrees Guarantee!. of stunning views up to 25 miles over to Penyghent, and a great view of Pendle Hill close by. Professional campers , like me, only requirements are a clean loo and cold water tap. The loo was very clean. And water from the tap, was from holy-Lancashire Hills, so.
I booked last minute, as everywhere on the coast , August bank holiday, was rammed. I never thought of Clitheroe as a destination, when i was booking my weekend, but was amazed with Clitheroe , such a lovely warm vibe and very much, a Jewel of the Northern hemisphere, with a Historical buildings from 1147. and Pendle Hill ,being around 4 billion years old. The whole area, villages and small towns, surrounding, are also full of great things to do . Local food , pubs, bakers are some of the best of England. Lancashire is famouse for Pie's, aka, 'Pah's', and you wont be dissapointed. World class pastries.
Lancashire is a 'Palatine,' so is unspoiled of the National trust, fees, for every castle, museum, gallery's and parking.

We spent a whole day from sunset to sunrise, enjoying the stunning views on the campsite, taking in nature's energy.
We hit it great with the weather, although, weather is never an issue to campers like myself. who are prepared for all kinds of climates, but its always great to hit on a great place, when the sun is blazing down, onto soft grass and cloverfields.
    Cannot wait to go back..
We only stayed a couple of nights. Could have stayed a month. Lucky for me, its less than one hour from my house in Bradford, so feel really blessed to have stumbled across this lovely areas. Cant wait to plan another weekend soon.
Health wealth n love to the muchly charming hostess of the campsite, who made us feel home from home.
