Gorgeous coniston water views

  • Quiet family park in 16 acres of woods next to Coniston Water
  • A 15-minute drive from Ulverston and 20 minutes from Windermere
  • Stunning views on site and great walks in the surrounding area
Cumbria, Coniston Water – and Crake Valley Holiday Park. As Lake District locations go, this is a particularly lovely one: in 16 acres of woodland on the shores of Coniston Water and around a 10-minute drive from Coniston village centre. As you might imagine, there are great views out over the water from this dog-friendly park – and up to the surrounding mountains and fells too, for good measure. Walks, sailing and watersports are all nearby for active types, and there are lake cruises, historic places to visit and family attractions easily accessible too. For a change of scenery, you could travel to Ulverston (15 minutes’ drive) for a market town on the beginning of the 70-mile-long Cumbria Way or trade lake views for seaside ones at the coast, half an hour away. While the scenery and location is obviously high up there, this isn’t a site that just relies on its location: the facilities are equally excellent, with free wifi, a laundry room and a modern toilet/shower unit with individual toilet and shower units, everything you’ll need to keep yourself feeling fresh and ready to get going onto your next adventure, whatever that may be.

Liked Good location, and use of facilities well stocked and cleaned. Pitches were well spaced and nice to have a additional bench on each section. Will definitely book again.

Liked Location , 10 minutes walk from site to edge of coniston waters.
Quietness , only 3 pitches on site , in wooded glade.
Cleanliness, wether self governing or not , site was kept tidy , toilets and showers also clean.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely site the fact it only has 3 tent pitches is Lovely means it's quiet and they are spaced out well all with there own fire pit and picnic table.
Amazing views and less than a 5 minute walk down to the lake side.
Small toilet and shower block was less than a minute walk from the pitches.
Little honestly hut was lovey and we got to Lovely little cake bars.
15 min drive to coniston and 30 minutes to Ambleside perfect location.

Disliked Nothing will definitely return.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We loved the location, so close to the Lakeside and a nearby walk above the site. The pitch was indeed muddy and solid as advertised!
The washroom facilities were excellent; clean and warm; with hot water and heaters! We appreciated the honesty hut and treated ourselves a couple of times.
We loved the wildlife: bats, deer and owls all seen from the site, and we also; for the first time in all out camping trips enjoyed the use of a fire pit!
We loved the lack of pitches, meaning it was a quiet site!

Nice site, good facilities.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked This is such a great spot! We camped surrounded by trees full of lovely birds that serenaded us every morning as the sun rose. Coniston lake is just across the road and accessible to all through a public footpath and little beach. There are two small bathrooms, with toilets and showers (nice hot water) and heating. There is also a little treat shop cabin where you help yourself and have a honesty box for you to pay.
We had a bonfire in the morning and evening, which makes the camping experience so much nicer.

Disliked The one thing that is really needed is an available socket (or two!) to charge devices (phones, tablets/iPads, music players, smart watches, dog tracker, etc.) or connect a hairdryer. I know many people who wouldn't use this beautiful site just because of the lack of a socket.

My favourite, can’t wait to go back! Beautiful!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The location was absolutely stunning, beautiful walks on the doorstep, forest, fields and beautiful lake…15 minute drive to local town. We will be coming back with the kids.
Pitched our tent in non-electric area and we were surrounded by tall trees, ferns and a small stream we could hear trickling past our pitch.
Facilities were great and close to the pitch but not too close to get in the way of the comping experience. Saying that, the Wi-Fi was even better than expected!

outside washing area for dishes and two large wet rooms that were warm and clean with cleaning supplies available also!
The honesty hut was the cutest touch too with snacks and treats that were clearly made with love and care! ☺️
This was the loveliest little camping spot iv been to and would have loved to stay longer!

Disliked No dislikes, thought it was perfect!
Exactly what I was looking for but more than expected!

We would definitely stay here again, good location and well maintained

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very small camping area with only 3 pitches but an amazing location amongst the trees with the sound of running water. Only a 5 minute walk to the lakeside which is ideal for water sports and swimming. The included fire pits and cooking tripod are also a big bonus

Local attractions

To stick to the ground or to go up into the treetops? You’ll be pulled in both directions in Grizedale Forest (half an hour's drive), thanks to its sculpture trail and the Go Ape obstacle trails in the trees. This is just one of the local areas rich in nature, as the mountain hike up the Old Man of Coniston (15 minutes) is a real beauty spot. Lake District locations go almost hand-in-hand with water activities and none more so than Windermere (20 minutes), where there’s bike or boat hire, canoeing and kayaking or waterskiing and wakeboarding classes. But while The Dock Museum (half an hour) is one way to learn about the water, it’s not all about that. There’s also a Buddhist temple at Conishead Priory (20 minutes), the Lakeland Motor Museum (15 minutes) and the National Trust Hill Top with Beatrix Potter’s house (25 minutes). William Wordsworth has made Grasmere (40 minutes) a particularly interesting village for literary fans, while those of you searching for some more history will find that in the fortresses of Wray Castle (half an hour) and Muncaster Castle (40 minutes).
