  • Luxury glamping on a traditional Lakeland farm in a stunning valley
  • A 10-minute drive from Staveley and 15 from Lake Windermere
  • Units have ensuites, beds with linen, and a microwave and fridge
This is a choose-your-own-adventure sort of spot: sitting pretty on a working family farm in the Kentmere valley, Kentmere Farm Pods is a haven for adventurers eager to explore the lush landscapes of the Lake District on foot or by bike. You’ll be ditching the tent pegs here, say the owners, and cosying up in a glamping pod built locally in the South Lakes for up to four people. Each one has double and sofa beds (with linen provided), a private ensuite toilet and shower, and a microwave and fridge. But back to those adventures… How does pootling beside the stream on site, following paths around the farm on the lookout for wildlife, or taking on a challenging trek further afield sound? All of the above's on offer at this park in a nifty location 20 minutes' drive east of the famed Cumbrian village of Kendal and 15 minutes west of Lake Windermere. If you prefer hanging out to hiking, the pods are in their own spacious field with spectacular views of the Kentmere valley and surrounding Lake District fells to cast your eyes upon. In the evenings, the sightseeing’s just as snazzy as a lack of light pollution means the stars glitter overhead when the skies are free from clouds. In the daytime, wangle yourself a licence from the local village, Staveley (under 10 minutes’ drive), and a fly-fishing permit from the site to have a go at angling on the Kent river flowing through the farm. If you’re not lucky enough to reel in some supper, the artisan shops, cafes, pubs, chippy, butcher and bakeries in the village have meals sorted anyway.

Camping pod

Liked: Beautiful location and lovely little camping pods. No phone reception which was ideal to get the kids off their phones and back to old fashioned things like talking and playing games. Surrounded by small but nice hills, just right for younger kids.

From the manager: Many thanks for a great review. So glad you liked the location. There are great walks for little kids but if you want more challenging hills, head into Kentmere for the Kentmere Horseshoe. Quite a steep climb up Garbon but great views over to High Street and Mardale. Hope to see you again.

Camping pod

Liked: Peace and quiet.

Disliked: Despite clear directions being sent with the booking, as a bloke, I did not use and relied on sat nav. As the pods are not signposted - this caused confusion (on my part).

From the manager: Thanks for your review and so glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet. Unfortunately Sat Nav sometimes drop people off early so we provide clear instructions to cover all bases. Sorry it didn't work for you.

Local attractions

It’s all about the epic walking and biking while on a stay here. Trot off across valleys and fells on the Kentmere Horse Shoe trail, taking around five hours, or have a go at challenging cycle rides like the thigh-burning Garburn-to-Troutbeck and Greenside-to-Longsleddale options. Wild swimming your thing? Try dipping in the hollows found along the river Kent or head to Rydal Water (25 minutes’ drive) for a lake swim. Climbers, meanwhile, might like to bound over to Badger Rock for some bouldering. Further away are the high-wire expeditions at Treetop Lake District (20 minutes) and Go Ape Grizedale (45 minutes), with the latter location also being home to bike trails through the forest. And if the water’s calling your name again? The bigger lakes – like Windermere, 15 minutes away – are the places for canoeing, windsurfing, rowing, kayaking and paddleboarding.
