  • Well-maintained peaceful park a minute's stroll from the beach
  • Half a mile from Haverigg and within walking distance of shops/pubs
  • Barbecues allowed; beachside café by the sand dunes
On the Cumbrian coast within a minute's stroll of a sandy beach – what an utter stunner. Butterflowers Holiday Park is in spectacular setting on the coast and with easy access to the Lake District, next to a café which overlooks an adventure play area, sand dunes and the sea. It's half a mile from the small fishing village of Haverigg, on the Duddon estuary five minutes' drive from Millom. Coniston Water and Barrow-in-Furness are both within 50 minutes; Kendal is just over an hour away, and outdoor options like hiking, golfing, pony trekking and fishing are all nearby. Leisurely pursuits are well sorted on site too, with that beachside café for alfresco bites overlooking the water. Barbecues are allowed: shops as well as pubs serving food are within walking distance. Dogs are welcome to come and stay at Butterflowers Holiday Park throughout the camping season.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely location for dog walking even in the miserable weather. Spacious level pitches. Clean and functional facilities. As a grumpy old lady I like the fact kids are encouraged to play off site and there is a fabulous playground across the road from the site. Little cafe just up the lane and a chippy within walking distance.

Disliked: No Wi-Fi but that’s just being picky

Liked: Nice and Quiet Site, Spacious Plots, Very Friendly People There. - Dave and his staff are lovely and very helpful. Level Pitches. Great views and very close to the beach, with a cafe and toilets nearby. The site is very clean and the toilets and showers were very clean.

Disliked: Pot Holes as you drive into the lane into the camp. Swimming pool advertised but not in use and has been closed apparently since Covid. Push button showers which takes a while for the warm water to come throug

Liked: Nice quiet site, lovely dog walks along the beach/sand dunes, cafe 5 mins walk.Very helpful reception staff I had a flat battery and was given a loan of a starter to get me going.

Disliked: Toilets/ shower facilities, although very clean and fit for purpose they are looking dated and could do with a refresh.

Liked: Right by the beach, lovely staff, decent pitch size & clean facilities.

Disliked: Water never got hot, only warm, and really low pressure. Pitches flooded but was really bad rain, no WiFi & poor TV reception. Swimming pool now closed so kids very disappointed, very little around there to do especially in bad weather.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Right by the lovely beach and a good children park. Owners friendly and helpful. Toilet block clean. Stunning views getting to the site. Everywhere is about an hour away, Ambleside, Windermere, Grange over sands etc. Pub within walking distance.

Disliked: Swimming pool on site has been closed which was one of the main reasons for revisiting so really disappointed with this as no other facilities in or around Millom. Water pressure & temperature terrible, only luke warm and took ages to get to that, shower head really low, so hard to wash hair, heating only came on twice a day so had to time when best to go for a shower (press button) . Lots of pitches flooded when heavy rain, terrible phone & TV reception & no WiFi. Very little to do in Haverigg (apart from the beach) & Millom was like a ghost town on a Saturday afternoon, not sure if this was due to it being Easter Saturday but nothing at all to do, most pubs also not open till 4pm, although again there is another good park for the kids & a decent size Tesco.

Local attractions

Start your local activities with a couple of hours at Millom Discovery Centre, five minutes' drive away at Millom station on Cumbria Coastal Line. The centre has a museum, a Rail Room with exhibits on the area's railway heritage, a mining area with full-sized mining cage, and a café, gift shop and prehistory gallery. Adventurous kids – and their grownups – should also like the costume room, where a nicely eclectic selection of 18th- and 19th-century threads await for dressing up. It's 10 minutes' drive from Butterflowers to the Hodbarrow RSPB reserve, a coastal lagoon on a former iron mine overlooking the Duddon estuary. Terns, oystercatchers, ringed plovers and redshanks are among the species that flock here; look out too for the protected great crested grebes on the reserve's island. Venturing further afield, it's 40 minutes' drive to the South Lakes Safari Zoo (formerly South Lakes Wild Animal Park) at Barrow-in-Furness, and just under an hour to treetop antics at Grizedale Forest's Go Ape. Windermere is an hour and five minutes away.
