  • Small Lake District farm site for families and couples
  • Two miles from Broughton-in-Furness; Coniston Water 20 minutes' drive
  • Family-run farm with sheep and cows; eggs and logs available to buy
Half a mile from the small village of Broughton Mills and two miles from the market town of Broughton-in-Furness, this quiet Lake District farm has a small selection of spacious pitches for families and couples looking to sleep under canvas in the gorgeous Lickle Valley. Set in the south of the Lake District and 20 minutes’ from the coast, Lane End Farm has simple amenities including portable toilets and an honesty shop where you can pick up logs and fresh eggs. Other than that, you'll pretty much be left to your own devices here. This site makes an excellent base for many a day trip in the national park, whether you have your eye on watersports at Coniston Water (20 minutes' drive) or conquering the lofty heights of Scafell Pike (an hour). If you haven't yet decided on your itinerary, perhaps this spot's fantastic far-reaching views will help you with some inspiration: the views over the fells just seem to go on and on, with several footpaths directly accessible from the farm for off-road rambles. This quiet part of the Lake District is also a wildlife haven: sit quietly in the field and you'll likely be treated to the sight of buzzards flying overhead; if they fail to make an appearance, there are always the cows and sheep grazing in the neighbouring fields. After a meal out or drink? This site is within roughly a quarter of an hour's walk of The Blacksmith's Arms, rated by the farm's owners as one of the best in the area.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: I stayed as a solo female and felt so safe. Portaloos are clean and they have a single shower on site. Small site with likeminded friendly people staying which made my experience pleasant. Location is great if wanting to climb old man. Each pitch has a fire drum and picnic table, plenty of space between one pitch to the next, very private. I am with network 3 and had signal / 3G / 4G the majority of the time with it occasionally dropping out. I’m very picky with campsites but I have no complaints here ! Thanks for a great experience, will most definitely be back.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The peace and quiet, the added bonus of a shower which wasn't listed on the features. Our very own picnic table and fire pit. The local pub, The Blacksmith Arms, was only a 10 minute stroll away with a great, reasonably priced selection of beers. They even had Guinness! Very rural location in the middle of nowhere but also managed to get 4G mobile phone signal at our pitch. Looking forward to coming back next season.

Disliked: The slight slope of the pitch and the shower door wouldn't close as it was warped.

Liked: The views are spectacular.

Disliked: Toilets are disgusting. If you have portaloos, ensure they're clean and if there is nothing to wash your hands with, at least have hand sanitizer. I understand they're outside, but every corner was filthy. Pot wash is just cold water The wind - site sits in a dip and when the wind comes in it's bad. I mean theres no escaping it unless you get in your tent. The wind comes in all directions and is constantly hitting you. Grated, it was high winds that day but even low winds would still hit you in every direction. There was no meet and greet.

Liked: Simple well kept campsite. Small rectangular field on a decline. Location is great.loveky views in a tranquil part of the lakes. Portaloos as expected (use as a last resort) Solid, no frills 10/10

Disliked: Not to do with campsite, but remember to book a table at the local pub if you are planning on eating - we got caught out.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We loved this immaculate little campsite. Every pitch has its own picnic table and fire pit. The views are incredible and there was an unexpected suprise of a hot shower as well as two very clean portaloos and a sink for washing up. We walked into Broughton Mills to the Blacksmiths Arms the first night and into Broughton through the woods with a cheeky wild swimming the way. Highly recommend this site.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: What's not like... Probably the best campsite I've stayed on. In the most scenic part of the lakes, 20 mins from Coniston and a stunning, quiet rural site. We had the entire site to ourselves. 2 very clean portable toilets (clean, even have solar lights for when it's dark). An outside shower (no it's not a shower head attached to a post, it's in a structure). It also got an abundance of hot water, complete with instructions and a phone number should you not be able to follow the instructions). Honesty shed (it's on the road before the farm) containing free range eggs (the hens will show you the way if you ask them) and the driest firewood you can buy and extremely reasonable costs. It's on a slight slope because it's a field on a farm in the lakeland hills. The views are simply to die for. If you like proper camping, go. Pitch sizes are also massive.

Disliked: Nothing at all.
