  • Motorhome pitches in woodland a 10-minute drive from Lake Windermere
  • Lakeland Motor Museum five minutes’ drive; Ulverston 15 minutes
  • Playground and duck pond; sauna and hot tub; launderette; shop
Experience the stunning landscape of the Lake District – but without the tourist madness often associated with the area – by staying at Black Beck Holiday Park, a peaceful site on the fringes of the national park. You’re only a 10-minute drive along the A590 from the southernmost tip of Lake Windermere here, which puts waterfront hikes and water-based activities within easy-peasy reach. Motorhome pitches (with water and drainage hook-up points) occupy an area of mature woodland with exquisite views of distant mountains. Among the on-site facilities is a secure children’s playground (with swings and see-saws), while the adults’ play area includes a sauna and a hot tub (with which you might well fall in love after a few days of scrambling up fells…), plus a shop selling beer and other local specialities. If you prefer your beer in a more social setting, a pub in the village of Bouth (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk) serves ales and traditional fare in a cosy setting with a woodburning stove and assorted taxidermy. There are more dining options along the A590, on the banks of the River Leven (about five minutes) and in the lively market town of Ulverston (15 minutes). Back at the site, take your dog (for which there is a small additional daily fee) for a walk along the site’s wooded paths down to the pond, where the kids can feed the ducks. In addition to a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, the site has a launderette (with an iron and a board) and a drying room.

What customers say

This is a beautifully maintained, quiet and clean park in a lovely location, praised for its spacious pitches and friendly staff. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are generally reported as modern and clean, with a new block under construction. The park is seen as a perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Some minor points raised include patchy phone reception, WiFi issues, and the distance of some facilities from pitches, though improvements are noted.

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked The location, size of pitch, nice clean park

Disliked How far the shower and toilet facilities were from our pitch. There should have been closer ones in use. Also not stated on pitch up no fire pit . WiFi slow

From the manager: Hi Catherine,

Thank you for leaving a review of Black Beck. We are just in the final process of finishing our brand new touring facility blocks that are located on Bluebell where you were sited. These are modern, accessible and spacious, with underfloor heating and a family room.

We are unable to select an option on pitch up to display that we have no fire pit. We hope that you visit us again soon to take a look at our new facility block.

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely park in a beautiful location. The pitches were wide and spacious. The park is really well kept and maintained, toilet facilities are in good order and there is a new block under construction. Friendly welcome from the staff.

Lots to do just a short drive away - a perfect base location.

Disliked Some of the serviced pitches are very far away from the taps - make sure you have a long, or multiple hoses.

Would have been nice to see a warden on patrol in the evening - a van near us was blasting music/film across the park, engine running all night - for a lovely quiet park, this was unexpected.

From the manager: Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your in depth review of Black Beck - we're glad you enjoyed your stay with us and would visit again.

We do have an onsite warden, if you experience any noise issues in the future feel free to call them at any time and they will do what they can to help you. We apologise for the disruption caused during your stay, and hope to see you again soon!

Bluebell fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The peace and views. Clean site with good level pitches.

Disliked The shower cubicles were small ( my husband’s words) powerful but SO hot. My skin was nearly burnt, you can’t adjust the temperature. No network coverage and wifi dropped out all the time so couldn’t check the weather for the next day

Local attractions

A converted mill on the banks of the Leven houses the Lakeland Motor Museum (five minutes’ drive), with a vast collection of vintage vehicles – from bicycles and scooters to motorcars, plus the Campbell Bluebird Exhibition, featuring several vehicles used by Donald Campbell during his speed-record breaking attempts. The kids might enjoy meeting Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail and other beloved characters at the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, in Bowness-on-Windermere (25 minutes). Here, they can also learn about the author and her conservation efforts, while across Windermere Lake is National Trust - Hill Top (25 minutes), the farmhouse she bought in 1905. National Trust - Sizergh (25 minutes) is a medieval property that’s been home to the same family for 800 years. During this time, they have accumulated a remarkable collection of portraits and decorative art objects. Stroll through the extensive grounds looking for butterflies and hawfinches.
