  • Quiet family-run pop-up site on a small working dairy and sheep farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Cautley Spout; walks and river activities nearby
  • Eggs sold on site; shops, pubs and restaurants in the local town
You won’t be short on fells, wild river swims and biking trails around Ashbeck Farm, just off the A683 on the way to Kirkby Stephen. This quiet, family-run pop-up site is on a small working dairy and sheep farm with views of the Howgill Fells, a group of hills where walking’s a banquet, and the river Rawthey at the bottom of the fields. That means river activities are a-go here – depending on the water levels, wild swimming, canoeing and paddleboarding are some of the ways to muck in. There's a river trail, walks to the fells directly from the site or the 80-mile Dales Way running through Sedbergh, around 20 minutes’ walk away too. Sedbergh is England’s official book town but it’s just about booksellers. There are shops, pubs and restaurants for a bite to eat or a few drinks before walking back. On the farm, there’s a small dairy herd, a flock of rough fell sheep, geese, a few belted Galloways and free-range hens living it up. There are eggs available to purchase and collect in the morning upon request, perhaps ready for a barbecue by your pitch. The good-sized pitches have parking for your car and well-behaved dogs are welcome, either kept in sight or on a lead at all times due to the livestock and hens in fields next door (dog muck must be picked up). There’s a tap for drinking water and washing up and a portable toilet, but no showers or waste disposal, so you’ll need to bag up rubbish yourselves and use the site’s recycling or bin for used barbecues.
