  • Scenic working dairy farm 10 miles from Scafell Pike
  • On the outskirts of Gosforth on the edge of the Lake District
  • Farm tours, drying room and lock-up bicycle storage on request
Leap and lollop your way to Harebeck Holidays for peaceful rural breaks with mountain views near the Cumbrian coast. Set a mile outside the pretty village of Gosforth and 10 minutes' drive from Seascale beach, this site is perched on the western edge of the Lake District, making a great base for days out around the river Esk and Ravenglass. The Wasdale Valley, where Harebeck Holidays is located, has lots of mountain views to liven up the scenery, including vistas over Scafell Pike, England's tallest peak. Let yourself get fully immersed in the countryside or try paddleboarding on Wast Water – and don't worry if your clothes come back a little on the damp side, as the site has a handy drying room where you can leave your boots and outdoor gear to air out. Other on-site facilities include a bathroom block with two separate showers and three toilets, as well as extras like a changing mat, step, toddler seat and hair dryer if you need them; bath towels are provided. Outside, there's secure lock-up bike storage available on request, as well as a washing-up unit with hand towels provided. When it comes to sourcing provisions, you can order eggs or a meat or veg pack from reception (at least 48 hours prior to arrival) or buy a disposable barbecue pack from site staff. Stocking up for the long haul? Harebeck Holidays is happy to take supermarket deliveries too. There's also a lovely coffee shop in Gosforth, just 15 minutes' walk away. You may also get the chance to go on a farm tour where the owners explain their agricultural methods and show off some of their prize animals.

Sheep Fold shepherd's hut

Electric gravel motorhome pitch (XL)

Liked: Archetypal Cumbrian farm, with a small bijou campsite. Great views up Wasdale valley. Quiet. Clean, tidy facilities but not state of art. We felt most welcome.

Sheep Fold shepherd's hut

Liked: My 1 year old daughter and I absolutely loved this place. The views were absolutely beautiful. There were lots of friendly cats and kittens that my daughter loved saying hello to. There were also cows for her to look at. She loved the little play area. The place is cosy and I felt relaxed watching her play as I could see everything from our spot. The host was very welcoming and the Sheeps fold, which we stayed in, had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The toilet and shower facilities were great. I will definitely be returning.

Liked: Small site Simple amenities Wanting for nothing Amazing views Cows Great value No nonsense Peaceful

Disliked: No wifi Nothing fancy if that’s what you want Is on a farm so cows mooing & machinery if your a light sleeper

From the manager: Cows are not always in the fields near the paddock as we have a rotational grazing system so at times it is quiet. We have limited WiFi but can get 4G signal with Vodafone. Hopefully fibre direct to us will arrive soon and we will be able to provide this on site. Thank you for leaving a review

Electric gravel campervan pitch

Liked: Very friendly and welcoming even though we booked last minute and got lost on the way and was a little bit late turning up - very helpful with directions to the site. Very cute and small :) adorable little kittens everywhere!!

From the manager: Thank you for leaving a review. The Shower block had most likely been used after cleaning and this could reflect on low cleanliness score as some do not rinse out showers after use. Glad to see you met Mopsy, the paddock is part of her territory

Electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Location is really nice with great views. Owner very friendly with lots of knowledge of the area. Facilities were sufficient for the short time we stayed.

Disliked: Nothing major. Just be aware that this is a working farm with a working dog (gave us a bit of a scare when he was guarding the entrance to the campsite)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Facilities are a shower block with warm showers and wash up sink. Towels, bath mats and hair dryers. We do not have a shop as we want visitors to shop locally. Nellie our sheep dog does not usually go up the yard near the glamping paddock. She is a bit shy and does not like people approaching her. She maybe was feeling trapped and did not want to move past you or your vehicle.

Seatallen electric gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Catherine! Location is good for Western Lakes (Wasdale, etc.). Working farm (complete with cats), Catherine showed us round (and would have showed us milking if we'd been around at the right times). Facilities basic but clean and perfectly functional. Moho hardstandings are flat & spacious, using extensive terracing

Disliked: Washing up space needs a roof. Hardstandings are accessed up fairly steep drives, watch your approach angles if you've a long overhang. There's not much scope for erecting drive-away awnings (wind-out OK) as surrounding grass areas are not as flat or extensive as appear in photos. Biggest issue for motorhomes is lack of proper grey water & chem toilet disposal points.

Local attractions

Local must-sees like Muncaster Castle and Gardens (10 minutes' drive) and the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10 minutes to the nearest station) are great for seeing some of the prettiest pockets of the surrounding area's landscape, while for ancient history there's second-century Hardknott Roman Fort (30 minutes) – lots more artefacts from the days when Cumbria as an outpost of the Roman Empire can be seen at museums in Workington (35 minutes) and Carlisle (an hour and 20 minutes). For time along the coast, treat yourself to an ice cream at Seascale beach (10 minutes), explore Whitehaven (25 minutes) and its Georgian port or set off to spot seabirds on the cliffs around St Bees (20 minutes). Rock climbing, scrambling, guided walks, bike hire and horseback riding are all available in the local area. To keep the kids happy, take them to permanent activity centres like go-karting in Maryport (45 minutes) or the indoor climbing wall at Kendal (an hour and 20 minutes).
