Sheep Fold shepherd's hut
Liked: The lady who runs the site is lovely and the views are stunning
Disliked: I had no choice but to leave a day early due to no sleep the sofa bed was so uncomfortable I ended up with pains in my back it would stop me staying there again the other cabin had the same type bed in I was so unhappy I was going to ask for a refund for my last day and night but I was in so much pain I just wanted to head home ….. my advice upgrade the bed and some modern curtains that fit and and the door I had to use some card for privacy

From the manager: So sorry to hear that you found the sofa bed uncomfortable. You are the first to mention this. The curtains are hand sown as they are an awkward size to fit, they do close and keep most of the light out but are not blackout curtains. As for the privacy the small window in the door has a transfer on it and is very small and high up. Someone would have to stand on the decking right outside the door to see into the property and they would have to be quite tall to do so. The pod which you mentioned has a different sofa bed in it and people have commented how comfortable it is. If you had asked I would have opened the pod up for you to try the bed in there. I will be willing to consider a partial refund as the property was not available to let for the day you left early as you did not inform me you were leaving, Please contact me.
Excellent site, dated facilities but clean, welcoming friendly staff.

Liked: Views, peaceful, small rural campsite.
Disliked: No Wi-Fi, nowhere to walk?
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Thank you for your review. Our WIFI is intermittent and does only reach near to the gate of the site at the moment. I am currently looking into boosting any signal we have further onto site. WIFI is available in the farmyard but this is our business WIFI. Anyone not having a 4G reception on their phone can ask to use this by asking for the password. There are no footpaths directly from the farmyard but a short walk down our lane connects to a footpath to Gosforth village. A short walk along a wide grass verge on the main road connects to two footpaths which can take you to Seascale or up towards the Wasdale Valley. From Gosforth there is a footpath called the Viking way which is surfaced and ends on the outskirts of Seascale village. If our fields near the site are clear of cows visitors are welcome to walk to the top of Gallows Hill where on a clear day there are views over the surrounding area. There is no gate directly from the site into our fields due to safety aspects for children staying on site and the gate not being closed and dogs escaping off the site and frightening our livestock.

Owl Hoot camping pod
Liked: Lovely little pod with just enough room for staying with a doggo. He was also happy enough to have plenty of space outside. The pod has all the essentials and is only a 15 minute walk into Gosforth where we found the local pub (The Lion and the Lamb) to be extremely friendly and welcoming.
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Thank you for your review. A large dog may not fit into this Pod. Medium and small dogs are welcome. All pubs in the village are welcoming. The Lion & the Lamb is nearest by walking along the main road which has wide verges. The Kellbank is very near to the end of the footpath through the fields to the village. Gosforth Hall Inn is near the Church which has the most northerly growing cork tree in Britain and a Viking Cross in the churchyard. There are Hoggs back Tombs inside the church. There is also the Globe near to the Lion & Lamb which does not serve food. The village has an Italian restaurant The Wild Olive and this and the Lion & Lamb do take away meals, with the Lion & Lamb delivering orders over £10.

Liked: Peaceful and quiet, unspoilt and friendly welcome from the owner.

From the manager: Our Shower block has towels to use if yours are wet and a shower mat to use. Hair dryers provided, so a little above basic. It is very peaceful and scenic here with views of Scafell. Even though you are on a farm there should be no tractors around near the site which is positioned away from our livestock buildings.
Peaceful, family friendly site in a beautiful location.

Liked: Great nature around, beautiful property, very quiet. Great facilities, gentle host.
Disliked: Being an eco-friendly site, there was no provisions for the chemical toilet cassete cleaning. We could live without it, but it’d be better if we could.
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: If the chemical toilet needed to be emptied then we could empty it for you in the slurry store. Any one else needing this facility please ask. We don't allow emptying on site as there may be chemicals which stop our Disposal system from working. Sorry for any inconvenience.
