  • Scenic farm site five minutes' drive from the Lake District
  • A 10-minute drive from Sizergh Castle; 20 from Lake Windermere
  • On-site bar with outdoor seating; views over hills and Morecambe Bay
Mornings roaming the hills followed by afternoons at the beach? Sounds a lot like Park House Farm Campsite, a scenic site between the Lake District National Park (five minutes' drive), Arnside and Silverdale (five minutes) and the coast (15 minutes). Wherever you're aiming to go, this well-located site comes up trumps in terms of access to nearby natural attractions. The vistas at this site are a mix of green hills dotted with farm animals and far-ranging views over the Kent Estuary (part of Morecambe Bay). Not that it's all about the views: portable toilets and a washing-up area are on hand to make daily essentials easier too. Park House Farm Campsite has a licensed bar set in a barn that dates as far back as the 1340s – with exposed timber beams, fine booze and chandeliers hanging from the roof, it's a rather swish affair. Things kick off here from 5pm; those too young to have a tipple can still join in by heading to the barn's tuck shop. (Please note that the bar will not be accessible to guests if there is a private booking, but drinks will still be available outside. If you're hanging out on your pitch instead, the folk on site ask that you're mindful of your neighbours and their sleeping kids; no music or noise after 10.30pm, ta.) Barbecues are permitted on site if you'd like to do a little alfresco cookery (please keep them off the ground to avoid damaging the grass though). Heading out instead? Milnthorpe (five minutes' drive) has several cafés, restaurants and a supermarket.

Local attractions

Hankering for the scent of sea air? Head down to Arnside Pier (15 minutes' drive) for a stroll along the shore, or drive half an hour down the road to the broad expanse of beach at Morecambe. Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (five minutes), a marshy spot where birdlife thrives, is pretty close at hand too – get yourself to RSPB Leighton Moss (15 minutes) if you find yourself tempted by twitching. Park House Farm Campsite is also on the very edge of the Lake District National Park, a sterling spot where you can go pottering about the home of the creator of Peter Rabbit (35 minutes), boating on Lake Windermere (20 minutes) or launch yourself onto the high ropes at Go Ape Grizedale (40 minutes). National parks and natural beauty spots are far from being the only things this part of the world has to offer – alternative attractions in the local area include surveying the age-old ruins at Dallam Tower (10 minutes), checking out the animals at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis (10 minutes) and running around the ramparts of splendid Sizergh Castle (10 minutes).

Daisy the Cow non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It’s a working farm and wedding venue. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The view was incredible from our pitch and we had excellent weather for our stay. The composting toilets are not for the faint hearted, they were clean and we didn’t share with anyone else, as avid festival goers we were ok with them. The shower was excellent. The on site bar had a good selection to choose from. We had a lovely short walk into milnthorpe and had an amazing Sunday lunch in the black bull.

Liked: The site was very clean and felt like we had privacy. We were allocated our own toilet and the camp has showers. Ground is excellent for tents. Extremely friendly hosts. We will visit again.
