General

  • Coastal site next to Maryport Marina
  • Near an aquarium, two museums, a go-karting track and a golf course
  • Highly scenic views of the Solway Firth, plus spectacular sunsets

Ahoy there... If you’ve been seeking a site right in the middle of the historic harbour town of Maryport – right next to the marina itself, in fact – then you certainly can’t do much better than Harbourside Caravan Site.

Better still, this site is within a very short walk of several of the town’s topping attractions such as a Roman museum, a maritime museum, an aquarium and an indoor karting track; you’re also a mere two miles from the local coastal golf course, and within very easy reach of the Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance footpath too, which runs right through the town.

The site has a simple set of amenities that includes an accessible sanitary block with hot showers, a bath, a parent and baby bathroom and a laundry room and a washing-up area, as well as electricity bollards and water stands around the accommodation area.

In 2017 a new customer lounge with a TV, comfy seating and tables are all available for your downtime, if all you require is somewhere to plan your days of sightseeing or relax with something on the box/your own thoughts.

Please note

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

If you bring an awning with your caravan, your car must be parked in the car park.

Electricity is metered on site at £0.22 per kWh and must be paid at check-out.

Secure Location on Marina with full view of the moorings. Excellent staff. Clean amenities. Short walk into town. Access to dining room facilities.

    Disliked:

The method of charging for the electricity used. It would be better to have it recorded and paid at the end without the need to guess how much you will use.

Excellent find, level hardstanding pitch, immaculately clean facilities and even the use of a dining / canteen room if we needed it. Staff were really helpfull. A very short walk to the shops. In the centre of the harbour and near to the beach with plenty of walks. Water points on pitch. Hook up if you need it.

absolutely our favourite site..everything about it is very good, great staff, great facilities, great views of the marina.free wifi and only 10 pitches...not quite established yet so can be a bit breezy. short walk into town, plenty of shops, take aways and eating places.....our favourite is the lifeboat inn...roast dinner plus free desert for £6.95...huge portions and very good quality food...lots of other choices available. bus stops on main road beside the church every 15 minutes for workington where you can go to keswick, cockermouth and beyond...cross the road from the church and you can get a bus to carlisle.

Local attractions

Several excellent attractions lie around Maryport Marina and within very easy walking distance of the park. For a spot of local history, explore the exhibitions and collections at Senhouse Roman Museum and Maryport Maritime Museum, or for something purely fun-based, take the kids for a day out to zoom around the tracks at West Coast Indoor Karting, or to marvel at the fish and other slimy sea creatures that inhabit the tanks at Lake District Coast Aquarium.

If you’re into walking, then the highly scenic Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance footpath also passes through Maryport, and you can head along it in either direction for spectacular views out across miles upon miles of Cumbrian coastline.

Tramp the path six miles north (or take the wheels out for a spin along the B5300) and you’ll happen upon the Victorian village of Allonby; wander around its cobbled streets spying such historic sights as the Old Baths, North Lodge, Christ Church, and the workingmen's Reading Rooms and check out the cheerfully painted homesteads along the way.

As well as lots of history and a couple of award-winning beaches, the village also has some rather fine views across the Solway Estuary towards the mountains in the south of Scotland; for avid anglers, a local company also operates fishing trips off the Solway coast.

Must see

  • John Paul Jones Cottage Museum & Visitor Centre (12.9 miles)
  • Mirehouse Historic House and Gardens (13.6 miles)
  • Whinlatter Forest & Visitor Centre (14.3 miles)

  • Wordsworth House and Garden (6.5 miles)
