  • Small, quiet and friendly farm site with spectacular views
  • Lots of room and spacious pitches
  • Several walks direct from the farm including onto the Howgill Fells
For splendid walks among grazing animals, and nights gazing up at big open skies, Low Greenside Farm is an excellent bet for an outdoorsy break of the old-school variety. This small, quiet and friendly site is on a sheep farm in a level field, with spectacular Cumbria countryside views in all directions: the owners say it's 'camping as it used to be', with spacious pitches set around the edge of a large field. There are assorted hill and valley hikes from the site, where up-to-date info is on hand to help you pick places to walk, eat and visit, as well as sorting countryside events and day trip ideas. There's direct access onto the Howgill Fells for long walks, where sheep and ponies will keep you company; the Lakes, the Dales and the lovely Eden Valley are all close by for days out. Campfires are allowed in the hearths provided with logs available to purchase at the farm, and guests can also blaze up a barbecue on site. Ravenstonedale village – a five-minute walk from the farm – has two country pubs with riverside gardens, both serving food and real ales. For foodie supplies you might also want to check out the nearby farmers’ market, or drive over to one of the surrounding towns and villages.

What customers say

Low Greenside Farm is highly praised for its spacious, clean, and well-maintained facilities, particularly the showers and toilets. Guests appreciate the eco-friendly ethos, generous pitch sizes with fire pits, and thoughtful touches like phone charging lockers. The campsite's peaceful atmosphere, beautiful views, and excellent location for exploring the Lake District and Dales, with local pubs within walking distance, are frequently highlighted. Owners are consistently described as friendly and welcoming. The only minor noted drawback is the darkness of the site, recommended for stargazing but requiring a torch.

From the manager: Many thanks for your lovely review, we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We absolutely love to see children being able to play safely on the campsite when there's no vehicles moving around and definitely think a few wheelbarrow trips is worth it for that added benefit :) Hope to see you back again sometime.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked This is the second time my partner and I have stayed at Low Greenside, it is hard to beat as lovely campsites go! The pitches are all super spacious each with a fire pit, the facilities are always very clean and well maintained - plus love all the sustainability / recycling measures! The pizza oven on a Saturday is a real treat. The location is spot on for accessing both the Dales and the Lakes, with 2 pubs in walking distance of the site. Magnus is a brilliant host and always friendly and approachable, we’ll be back again soon for sure!!

Thanks so much for your lovely review, you've definitely highlighted everything that we love about the site, from the space, the firepits, to the location and the proximity to the pubs!! :)

From the manager: Hi Chloe. Thanks so much for your great review and your comments about the cleanliness of our facilities. We think our waterless toilets are magic and love explaining to amazed campers how they work without smelling at all :)
We're so pleased you enjoyed the music on the Saturday. We were a little nervous as it was the first time we've put that on for our campers and were so thrilled with the reception it got. Something we'll definitely be looking at doing again. Hope to see you again soon.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Wow. Honestly the experience at Low Greenside Farm really changed how I view camping. Before visiting, in my mind it was full of compromises, with poor facilities and a noisy environment. The facilities were absolutely excellent, the showers were particularly great, and the washing up facilities were great too. The environment was super friendly, all other campers there were great to chat with, and the atmosphere at night was peaceful. The area is spectacular too, with Ravestonedale being a great spot with some good pubs (especially the Kings Head). The walks to the viaduct and up the Green Belle gave spectacular views. Being in the Westmoreland Dales, it was brilliantly positioned to travel into the Lakes. There really was no faults/compromises. Couldn't rate it higher as a campsite, can't wait to visit again! The team there were super friendly.

From the manager: Such lovely comments Ben. You lads were an absolute pleasure to have on site and you're always welcome to come back and stay with us. We really appreciated the chocolates you left for us too :) I'm working my way through them!

Local attractions

There are plenty of interesting local walks and bike rides in the region – several of which start at the farm gate – with refreshments to be had at pubs and cafés en route. The Howgill Fells are a few minutes' stroll up the lane. There's excellent access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, with the equally scenic Eden Valley another option for those looking to avoid the crowds. Close to the site, you can go pony trekking or trout fishing – catch one and barbecue it later (the trout, not the pony...) Ravenstonedale village has a playground, public tennis court, nine and 18-hole golf course and a small art gallery to take in. The market towns of Kirkby Stephen, Appleby and Sedbergh are all within hiking distance. For some food and tipples to finish the day with back at base, head to Hawes (40 minutes' drive) for cheese from the Wensleydale Creamery and craft beers from the Yorkshire Dales Brewery.
