A peaceful place to relax

General

  • Small, quiet and friendly farm site with spectacular views
  • Lots of room and spacious pitches
  • Several walks direct from the farm including onto the Howgill Fells

For splendid walks among grazing animals, and nights gazing up at big open skies, Low Greenside Farm is an excellent bet for an outdoorsy break of the old-school variety. This small, quiet and friendly site is on a sheep farm in a level field, with spectacular Cumbria countryside views in all directions: the owners say it's 'camping as it used to be', with spacious pitches set around the edge of a large field.

There are assorted hill and valley hikes from the site, where up-to-date info is on hand to help you pick places to walk, eat and visit, as well as sorting countryside events and day trip ideas. There's direct access onto the Howgill Fells for long walks, where sheep and ponies will keep you company; the Lakes, the Dales, and the lovely Eden Valley are all close by for days out.

Campfires are allowed in the hearths provided with logs available to purchase at the farm, and guests can also blaze up a barbecue on site.

Ravenstonedale village – a five-minute walk from the farm – has two country pubs with riverside gardens, both serving food and real ales. For foodie supplies you might also want to check out the nearby farmers’ market, or drive over to one of the surrounding towns and villages.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 10 Oct 2020.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Minimum spacing of 10 metres between pitches.

Campfires are allowed and fireplaces provided. Only logs or charcoal are permitted - no scrap wood for safety reasons. Free kindling supplied.

The campfire must be at least six metres away from where your tent is pitches.

Many thanks Adam, so pleased you enjoyed your stay and your campfire.
With regard to the peace and quiet on site, we are very lucky to have such very nice campers here - people like yourselves who quietly enjoy being out in lovely scenery, away from the honeypots but with excellent access to great local walks as well as trips out to the Lakes and the Dales.
It's nearing the end of our open period now, so we'd just like to say thank you to everyone who's been camping with us this rather short but busy season. We look forward to seeing many of you again in 2021. Thank you and take care.

Another great thing about good old fashioned camping is how well adapted it is to the 'new normal', with loads of space for campers to enjoy peacefully and safely even when we are busy.
We look forward to seeing you again, thank you.

Many thanks for your review. We're so pleased you liked the campsite amenities and spaciousness.
Having contacted you to investigate why you were unable to find us when you arrived we've concluded it was probably due to our doorbell battery running down! I'm glad this didn't cause you much of a problem and we look forward to seeing you again.

We're always pleased when campers appreciate our moves to be more sustainable and eco friendly. (It's noticeable this year how conscientious campers are being about recycling and that too is very pleasing - thanks to all for doing their bit to reduce and recycle waste!)

The campsite was very clean and we had a warm welcome on arrival from Magnus who gave us some free Kindling with the cheap logs we purchased from him. Each spot has its own fire pit where you can borrow a grill to bbq on. The campsite is situated in a lovely location between the lakes and the dales. The toilets and showers are consistently lovely and clean. Magnus is lovely and very helpful! Would definitely recommend and come again

Local attractions

There are plenty of interesting local walks and bike rides in the region – several of which start at the farm gate – with refreshments to be had at pubs and cafés enroute. The Howgill Fells are a few minutes' stroll up the lane.

There's excellent access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, with the equally scenic Eden Valley another option for those looking to avoid the crowds. Close to the site, you can go pony trekking or trout fishing – catch one and barbecue it later (the trout, not the pony...)

Ravenstonedale village has a playground, public tennis court, nine and 18-hole golf course and a small art gallery to take in. The market towns of Kirkby Stephen, Appleby and Sedbergh are all within hiking distance.

For some nosh and tipples to finish the day with back at base, head to Hawes (40 minutes' drive) for cheese from the Wensleydale Creamery and craft beers from the Yorkshire Dales Brewery.
