  • Working farm site in the Lake District with stunning fell views
  • Just off the A66 road in Threlkeld, a 10-minute drive from Keswick
  • Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges within 20-minute drive
Looking for a lush location to settle down in while exploring Lakeland? Step foot in the family-run Setmabanning Caravan Park, then step off site towards top spots like Keswick and the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes’ drive). This site really is very easy on the eye: it’s got spectacular views of Blencathra and the surrounding fells, making it fab for frolicking about the Lake District (or just having a bit of R&R in a rural bolthole). During a break here, the more energetic among your travel crew could tackle the Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges, all within about a 20-minute drive, while strollers seeking easier trails might prefer the pretty footpaths and cycle tracks around the local valley and towards Keswick. Sticking to the site is always an option too – being a working farm, there’s lots to see and do, whether it’s watching the sheep being sheared and the cows going out into the fields with their calves or feeding the chickens and ducks as they wander by. When it comes to filling your own stomach, it’s a 25-minute walk to the centre of the nearest village, Threlkeld, which has two country pubs serving Cumbrian food and ales. Meals are also to be had at the golf club, and the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum (10 minutes) is worth a quick nosey around as well.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely gravelled pitch with water and electricity. We'll maintained. But don't come to a working farm if you're fussy.there is a bit of a hike through the farm yard to get to the showers, which could do with some simple up dates like somewhere to put your toiletries rather than the floor and some proper hooks to hang your clothes and towel on, the over door ones are not good and my clothes fell onto the wet floor.uhh..
They are typical farm showers but functional and powerful also not on a push tap which was so much more enjoyable.
All in all a good experience but as I said if your prim and proper fussy choose a different sight.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: The best fully serviced pitch ive ever been on. Lots of space.Hardstanding almost level.one tyre neede slight raise. The pegs went in easily and stayed firm. EHU, water and grey waste in perfect position and could have emptied grey water by driving over area but used Collapse pipe instead. Friendly Management team. Onsite shop for essentials if forgotten.
15min short cut to tarmac old railway line which goes to Keswick. Ideal if you have bikes. We didnt this time as had 2 dogs. We did however walk it with a double dog trolley as 1 dog was 15 years old and needed help. Great day out as very scenic route. Places to sit along route. We enjoyed it so much did it all again next day taking our time and photos along the way. Allow about 2hrs each way at least.

Liked: The fully serviced pitches are excellent. Lovely quiet site despite being a working farm, nothing to dislike. Warm welcome from Thomas the farmer who showed to our pitch. The farm shop is brilliant and operates on an honesty policy - I sincerely hope that this level of trust is never abused as this is exceptional!
Magnificent views of Blencathra - we are planning to return next year. Highly recommend.

Local attractions

The site is on a cycle path leading to Keswick, so you could either drive to town (10 minutes) or ride there by bike. Once you’ve arrived, have a left-of-field hour or so learning about the history of pencils at the Derwent Pencil Museum before gazing at artefacts dug up from around Lakeland in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery. Just on the outskirts of town is the Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back as far as the Neolithic area; check this historic spot out, then trudge up to the 2,848-foot Halls Fell Top at the peak of Blencathra. The mighty mountain ranges of Skiddaw (20 minutes’ drive) and Helvellyn (10 minutes) are also local to the site if you’re up for another hiking challenge. As you’re in the Lake District, you’ll surely want to be inspecting some of the area’s bodies of water too. The closest to Keswick is Derwent Water (15 minutes) – ace for boat trips around the Theatre by the Lake – but Thirlmere (10 minutes) and Ullswater (20 minutes) are within easy reach as well.
