  • Working farm site in the Lake District with stunning fell views
  • Just off the A66 road in Threlkeld, a 10-minute drive from Keswick
  • Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges within 20-minute drive
Looking for a lush location to settle down in while exploring Lakeland? Step foot in the family-run Setmabanning Caravan Park, then step off site towards top spots like Keswick and the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes’ drive). This site really is very easy on the eye: it’s got spectacular views of Blencathra and the surrounding fells, making it fab for frolicking about the Lake District (or just having a bit of R&R in a rural bolthole). During a break here, the more energetic among your travel crew could tackle the Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges, all within about a 20-minute drive, while strollers seeking easier trails might prefer the pretty footpaths and cycle tracks around the local valley and towards Keswick. Sticking to the site is always an option too – being a working farm, there’s lots to see and do, whether it’s watching the sheep being sheared and the cows going out into the fields with their calves or feeding the chickens and ducks as they wander by. When it comes to filling your own stomach, it’s a 25-minute walk to the centre of the nearest village, Threlkeld, which has two country pubs serving Cumbrian food and ales. Meals are also to be had at the golf club, and the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum (10 minutes) is worth a quick nosey around as well.

What customers say

Setmabanning's a peaceful, family-run farm campsite with great serviced pitches and Blencathra views. Friendly vibe, honesty shop, and ideal for walks. Some showers are dated, but guests loved the farm and want to return.

Fully-serviced gravel caravan site

Liked Lovely farm shop, great seeing the animals around on the working farm. Friendly welcome. Great water pressure in showers and nice and warm too.
Great local walks and a park just up the road too.

Disliked Showers could do with hooks that don’t fall off to make it easier to hang up clothes.

Fully-serviced gravel caravan site

Liked Having been a regular at Setmabanning with my tent for 35 years, I'm a new caravan convert and booked this year with my tourer. I took along my three year old niece on the adventure. She loved seeing the lambs, cattle and horses.
The site is amazing, big pitches that are fully serviced. Views of Blencathra are spectacular. This is a working farm, the family are wonderful, hard working people who are so hospitable. I've seen negative reviews about the showers, but I've never had a problem with them. They're always red hot, powerful, spotlessly clean and are free. What's not to like? I've already booked for my next stay. As you can probably tell, i LOVE the place. Considering its only a ten minute drive to Keswick, its worth every penny.
Thank you so much to the Hutton's for always making me welcome x

Liked The location is great for walking into Keswick via the coast to coast path. Pitch was a decent size and well stocked farm shop.

Disliked The toilet and shower block was dated. It was also dirty and smelt.

Liked Sheep being herded by farmer with sheep dog.

Disliked Showers and toilets basic and unappealing / dingy so didn't use the showers (decided to wait until arrived at next site!)
No signage on arrival showing reception.
Although booked in advance and paid going rate, was placed along a siding and not allocated a proper pitch.
Pitches all very close together.
I've been camping for over 50 years and have seen a lot of different camp sites but this is lacking on every level!

Local attractions

The site is on a cycle path leading to Keswick, so you could either drive to town (10 minutes) or ride there by bike. Once you’ve arrived, have a left-of-field hour or so learning about the history of pencils at the Derwent Pencil Museum before gazing at artefacts dug up from around Lakeland in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery. Just on the outskirts of town is the Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back as far as the Neolithic area; check this historic spot out, then trudge up to the 2,848-foot Halls Fell Top at the peak of Blencathra. The mighty mountain ranges of Skiddaw (20 minutes’ drive) and Helvellyn (10 minutes) are also local to the site if you’re up for another hiking challenge. As you’re in the Lake District, you’ll surely want to be inspecting some of the area’s bodies of water too. The closest to Keswick is Derwent Water (15 minutes) – ace for boat trips around the Theatre by the Lake – but Thirlmere (10 minutes) and Ullswater (20 minutes) are within easy reach as well.
