General

  • Small and peaceful farm at the foot of the Howgill Fells
  • Remote location but only ten minutes' drive from the M6
  • In walking country and four miles from Sedbergh

How about this for handsome scenery: Howgills Hideaway on a small sheep and cattle farm near Kendal is the foot of the Howgill Fells, with views across the Lune Valley. And how should you spend your Howgills holiday time? Perhaps sitting back and relaxing – or having a brisk walk on the fab Fells on your doorstep or the Yorkshire Dales National Park all around?

Howgills is a small, secluded and peaceful site, four miles from the market town (and books) of Sedburgh and set just where Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales National Park meet. Although it's a remote location site, it's only ten minutes' drive from the M6 and 11 miles from Kendal; Penrith is easily accessible a bit further north.

Howgills Hideaway has smart and modern accommodation with well-thought out little touches and bed linen provided. Showers and toilets are on site for guests' use, and recycling is available.

Both campfires and barbecues are allowed, but using only firewood purchased on site, please.

Location, views, facilities (really only needed to bring food... and wine), friendliness and generosity of owners, cleanliness of pods and facilities. Welcome pack is a nice touch!

    Disliked:

Rain(!). Firepits for each pod was handy... somewhere to bbq would be nice?... Trampoline was great but more activities for kids to do would be good... and security at the main gate (like a locking gate).

Loved the location, there was plenty to explore & our 2 boys had hours of fun climbing trees, playing in the stream & on the trampoline. It was really peaceful & tranquil as there are only 3 pods. The pods themselves are very spacious, clean & well equipped. The owners are really accommodating & are there if you need them, providing a BBQ, charcoal & logs for the burner. The homemade buns on arrival were also most welcome & delicious. Four very clean toilets, 2 of which with showers & the gravel pathways meant that even when raining, there wasn't mud trailing everywhere. All very well thought out & extremely lovely.

    Disliked:

Didn't dislike anything, but would have liked a mirror in the pod & a hook outside for wet coats.

There was everything you could possibly need in the pods. Bed, sofa a little table and a tv. The kitchenette area was fully equipped which was extremely handy. The views from the pod are absolutley amazing and being able to sit out on the decking and eat and watch was deffinatley special. The shower blocks where just futhur up from the pods, these where spotlessly clean throughout our stay.

Liked how it was like a home from home. Pod was warm and cosy with the heater. Pod and toilet/shower blocks were very clean, shower blocks were also nice and warm. Had everything you needed to enjoy a self catering break. Views are amazing, location is perfect. Fire pit with marshmallows was a big hit with us and also the breakfast basket that you can order was fantastic.
