Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Wonderful campsite. Quiet, family friendly. Real countryside camping. Fabulous host, really helpful, and accomodating and has loads of local knowledge for walking and getting out and about. The price per pitch per night is so reasonable for us. As a family of 7, other lake district sites that charge per person, per car, per awning etc are out of our price range. We've stayed twice now, and we'll be back. We love it.

Liked: I recently stayed at the barn campsite and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The facilities were top-notch, with clean and well-maintained toilets and showers. The organization of the campsite was impressive, making it easy to navigate and find everything we needed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any inquiries or issues. Their welcoming attitude really enhanced our stay. The campsite itself was clean and well-kept, a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. I did encounter some noise from a neighboring tent late into the night, which was a bit disruptive, but this was a minor inconvenience in an otherwise enjoyable visit. I've already recommended here to my friends and would certainly consider returning in the future. It’s a great spot for anyone looking for a well-organized and friendly camping experience. ---

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Just perfection. No words can do justice for how good this campsite is. We appreciate the little things & things that are well thought through, and this campsite ticks all our boxes. We got a super warm welcome from the owner, who was a wealth of knowledge of the local area, things to do and where to eat. The toilets were warm & clean, with three separate shower cabins (the showers are better than mine at home!). There was a box with electric for phone charging, loads of fire pits and bbqs to borrow & wood to fuel them with. A washing up station & a poly tunnel where we could put towels etc to dry. The ground was perfect for a tent, easy to get the pegs in and flat ground. The location was great, the road was quiet & it’s easy to find. And only 15 minutes from West Water. Loads of birds and wildlife around too, the hedges were full of little birds all weekend. All quiet after 10pm which was fab for early nights ready for early starts. We really enjoyed our stay here, it’s the best campsite we’ve been too & we will absolutely be back soon! The vibes were immaculate ❤️

Disliked: The wifi worked great for my phone but my friend could only connect when near the house, which i think was a problem with her phone rather than the wifi!

Local attractions

Get set to see some of the Lake District’s most famed sights on outings from The Barn – it will take you about 10 minutes to drive to Wast Water, 20 minutes to the dramatic cascades of Stanley Ghyll waterfall or 40 minutes to Coniston Water for boat trips and sailing courses. If you’d like a little more of an uphill challenge, scramble up Sca Fell (15 minutes’ drive) or the slightly taller Scafell Pike (25 minutes). Alternatively, for a much gentler day out, sign up for llama or alpaca trekking at The Woolly Farm (five minutes). There’s plenty of heritage around here too: perhaps you’d like to mooch around Muncaster Castle (10 minutes) to see the haunted castle and hawk centre, or visit the atmospheric ruins of Egremont Castle (20 minutes). A ride on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (10 minutes) is a good way to mix up a bit of scenery and a sense of past times. Looking out towards the coast instead, you may like to head to the seaside at Seascale (15 minutes), where there’s a beach and a golf course.
