General

  • Working farm with spectacular views in the Lake District National Park
  • Popular beach walks at Drigg and Seascale
  • Hadrian's Cycleway runs direct from the site

Hall Carleton Farm is a family site set on a working farm on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria, in the Lake District National Park, around a mile from the village of Holmrook and surrounded by heaps of villages, visitor attractions, hikes and historic monuments. You've got spectacular views across the fells from the farm, with the orchard facing west towards the sand dunes on Drigg beach.

As you'll be staying on a working farm, kids will get to see farm animals and vehicles and are welcome to feed the site's resident chickens and cockerels. There's plenty of space to kick a ball around in, and fishing is available on site too.

Amenities include a water tap, a chemical disposal point (providing septic tank compatibility) and a private shower room with electric shower, sink and toilet.

Plenty of good restaurants, pubs and inns are within walking distance, and even more a short drive away. There's lots to do in the immediate area such as walking, fishing on the River Irt, swimming and boating at Wastwater lake and climbing at Great Gable and Scafell Pike.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

    Disliked:

Toilet/ shower, awful, nowhere to get dried and dressed. Door doesn't close properly, birds in toilet/ shower room, holes in door filled with toilet roll, cobwebs everywhere, very cold , no footpath to toilet, disgusting, dirty pond and bird bath right outside toilet door

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments.

I am pleased that you rated the site, its location, the customer service, child friendliness and the quality of the accommodation 10/10.

To date, the site has had around 500 people stay and they have all been complimentary about the shower facilities.

This is a brand new and clean bathroom suite, fitting for a camping experience in the country side. The shower facilities are stand alone and the door does have a lock on it for privacy when changing.

People love the wildlife and children especially enjoy the pond life in our small garden area. We have frogs and the birds drink from the pond water.

The camp site is small and you indicated that you would recommend the site to a friend and return.

We look forward to seeing you again.

The fire pits and logs were already set up when we got there; there farm it self was lovely; the surrounding towns were easy to get to (10 to 15 minute drive) with seascale being especially nice while the sun was out. A very nice place for families.

The small pitch and farm location was perfect. Apple trees in the pitch added a lovely touch. Ducks and chickens were love company. Very lovely untouched feel. Relaxing environment away from road noise. Also very near the beach and pub.

    Disliked:

Needed a field or play area for kids to play without disturbing others.
Need to build a separate toilet as it was very inconvenient if you were very desperate to go to the toilet but someone was in the shower. It out undue pressure on the person in the shower to hurry up. Also drainage for washing up water to be flushed away.

Friendly welcome and nice easy walk into Ravenglass. Lovely views from site also. Excellent fact sheet about the area given on arrival.

    Disliked:

1 toilet (which included the only shower) for 8 tents (over 30 people) was ridiculous. This really let the site down. I had to wait until arriving into Ravenglass to use the toilet as it was constantly engaged with people having showers on one morning.
Hiring a portaloo would have eased this greatly. Its a shame as would be very nice site with the toilet situation (when site is busy) sorted.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments.

Yes, the site is designed for 5 pitches only.

Demand was so great over the Bank Holiday, it was over booked.

We will resort back to the 5 pitches only and when demand requires, we will open the downstairs shower room in the house.

Cute and scenic place to stay, recieved a little guide from the owners on where to go which was really helpful! Would definitely stay again as a couple but too quiet for a bigger group of friends id say.
While there we visited the bootle beach, walked to the waterfall and ate/drank at a few local pubs.

We stayed here for the bank holiday with our roof tent which they kindly accommodated. The weather was glorious so made all the difference when camping. We decided that our weekend would be on foot with no intentions of driving so it was nice to be able to enjoy nearby walks to Ravenglass and Drigg beach. There are plenty of signposted walks to other places.
The site we found to be remote, peaceful and just what we wanted. It was lovely and quiet despite being a working farm, the odd visit from the wandering tup and the cows mooing was very nice.
Firepits and logs were available at a very reasonable cost to enjoy the campfires at night, which just finished the day off nicely.
The toilet facilities I found to be quirky in a nice way and the provision of a washing up bowl, liguid etc was also a thoughtful gesture.
The owners were friendly and helpful, we had a great stay and are looking forward to visiting again.
I can't comment on the wifi as we were able to get a signal on our mobile.

    Disliked:

If I had to say anything at all it would just be that there was only one toilet, but it wasn't a problem.
Also its best to use the reference supplied rather than the postcode as we got a bit lost on our sat nav. Google maps however did send us in the right direction too.

Really nice location, close to where we were climbing over the weekend. Was recommended a good pub to eat. Friendly welcome upon arrival. Being February we were the only people there so nice and quiet. Hot shower was nice. Some utilities were provided for washing up which was super helpful on the morning.
