  • Working farm with spectacular views in the Lake District National Park
  • A five-minute drive from Ravenglass
  • Access Hadrian's Cycleway directly from the site

What a stunner... Hall Carleton Farm is a family site set on a working farm on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria in the Lake District National Park – and with spectacular views across the fells from the farm and an orchard facing west towards the dunes on Drigg beach.

This is a peaceful spot, around a mile from the village of Holmrook, a couple of miles from the sea at Drigg, and with direct access to Hadrian's Cycleway or National Route 72, 174 miles of trail running alongside the entire Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site. Fishing on the River Irt, swimming and boating at Wastwater and climbing at Great Gable and Scafell Pike are within easy day trip distance.

Amenities include a water tap, a chemical disposal point and a private shower room with electric shower, sink and toilet. Three pubs are in Ravenglass, five minutes' drive away.

The area was perfect surround the farm and the pitch was in an orchard where we could pick fresh berries and apples. The wild life was active and relaxing but not annoying or noisy!

The owners were amazing and happy to help with any needs and even turning up 2 hours late were still happy to see us!

A quiet and peaceful location with beautiful beaches, wastwater and ennerdale a short car ride away. We had a lovely time here, the owner was friendly and facilities well maintained. We also really liked picking apples from the orchard to have in our meals! A fab base to explore the coast and west lakes, we particularly enjoyed how it was a smaller quiet campsite where you felt away from the main tourist crowds. Also we had really heavy rain and the field was not waterlogged so the pitches are very good. Also friendly locals cockerel and doggy were cute.

A warm welcome from Andrew when I arrived. He explained everything to me. A small, tidy site. Pitches are in a walled orchard. Idyllic location. Very quiet. Nice view across to the fells at Wasdale. A huge sky. Facilities are basic but clean. Fells, beaches and other attractions are a short drive away.

Friendly owners with good recommendations of where to go in the local area. Small campsite which allowed campfires, which was great for us!

    Disliked:

There was one shower and two toilets for the campsite in a little hut. Although there was hand wash there weren’t any paper towels to dry our hands and the toilet/shower was a little basic for the cost of the campsite.

Start from the site to access the 34.8-mile run from Ravenglass to Maryport, passing Glannaventa Roman Bath House, Ravenglass, Saltcoates, Holmrook, Drigg and Seascale.

Not up for pedalling quite so far? Take the bike – or car – for a day in the handsome coastal village of Ravenglass, to to take the kids to the play park or pootle around the harbour and Muncaster Castle and gardens. Or make for the beaches at Brigg or Seascale, two and a half and five and a half miles respectively from the farm and both reachable by bike, car or on foot.

Other famed Lake District activities and attractions are within easy driving distance, like Wastwater lake (20 minutes' drive), hikes from Eskdale (25 minutes), or climbing at Great Gable and Scafell Pike, 35 minutes away. And if you like your sightseeing with the minimum of effort? Hail the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway steam train for a scenic chuff through the Cumbrian countryside and Eskdale valley from Ravenglass to Dalegarth.
