High Yewdale Camping: Quiet pitches

General

  • Wild camping with a gorgeous rural location close to the Cumbria Way
  • A five-minute drive to Coniston and 10 minutes from Tarn Hows lake
  • Dog-friendly campsite with essentials like portaloos and running water

High Yewdale Camping really is wild camping, with just a handful of pitches in a Lake District valley field. Surrounded by exceptional views of the Cumbrian fells, this peaceful site welcomes adventurous families looking for a back-to-basics camping experience.

There’s easy access to the site from the A593 (note, down a farm track), and plenty of parking away from the camping field. Kids and dogs can run around freely and safely, or splash in the river that runs alongside the field.

Mini-breaks here put you in the heart of walking country, so you can take a gentle family stroll right from the campsite or choose more challenging routes up Wetherlam or Dow Crag. Coniston Water (there’s sailing on the lake too) and the Old Man of Coniston are both less than 15 minutes’ drive from the campsite, and the long-distance Cumbria Way starts in Coniston too.

There are local pubs and shops in the village, so you can source supplies for your barbecue here or head to Ambleside (15 minutes' drive) for a bigger selection of stores. If you fancy exploring the Lakes by car, there are plenty of Beatrix Potter- and William Wordsworth-themed attractions to fill up your days.

Please note that the track to the site may be difficult for motorbikes in wet or slippery conditions.

Please note

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Inconsiderate people being noisy after midnight. Not the site’s fault, but maybe an emphasis on being quiet after a certain time would encourage some people to think a little more?
