What customers say

This is a highly recommended site praised for its beautiful location, stunning views, and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors consistently highlight the cleanliness and excellent quality of the yurts and facilities, particularly the private shower and toilet. The thoughtful extras, such as cooler boxes and log burners, are much appreciated. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive with many expressing a desire to return, one guest noted an issue with flies.

Liked My daughter and I stayed for four nights in August and everything about our stay was exceptional. The yurt was homely, cute, super clean, well equipped with everything we needed for the week (including dishes and cookware, kettle, firewood and starters, matches; plus extras like tealight candles, scissors, foil, broom, lots of blankets, etc). The eco-toilet was clean and easy to get the hang of, and really glad we had our own to use! The private shower was also spotless and worked great. There is a washing up area with two sinks (dish towels, liquid, sponge all provided), and a small freezer for re-freezing ice packs. Absolutely gorgeous scenery. At night we toasted marshmallows over the fire pit, also used it as a grill to cook one night, the rest of time using the hob inside yurt which worked perfectly. The double bed was comfy and clean and we both slept so well all week. Woken up by the cows mooing each morning, which was funny to us, but if you are a light sleeper and fancy a lie-in, maybe bring earplugs. We were lucky with gorgeous sunny weather all week. Location is stunning and just a bit remote, about 20 min drive to Buttermere Lake and Keswick (groceries available, though maybe something closer) & Derwent Water where we loved going to swim each day. Jennifer our host was very responsive and helpful when I was struggling to find the location on our first night (my problem with satnav). We would definitely love to come back to this peaceful spot and have already thought of booking again for next year.

Liked Lovely, small site. Private bathroom and shower. Very well equipped Yurt and washing up area, and things really well thought out like providing a cooler box and the ability to re-freeze the blocks. Nice and peaceful with shops nearby in Cockermouth. Bedding was lovely!

Disliked I think my only grumble is that it was virtually impossible to cook anything on the grill (hobs were fine).
And the amount of flies around. Worse for us as my daughter currently has a phobia, but couldn’t find citronella candles in any local shops. Perhaps a warning about the flies would have been helpful.

Local attractions

As Lake District aficionados know full well, this area’s prime for puttering about on two feet or two wheels. Whinlatter Forest Park, England’s only mountain forest, is a top-notch pick for cycle rides on the longest purpose-built bike trails in the Lake District, 10 minutes’ drive away; keep eyes peeled for the creatures that scamper around the area: red and roe deer, Herdwick sheep and shrews can all be spotted hereabouts. If you’ve not spotted any critters, drop by the Lake District Wildlife Park (15 minutes' drive) to see over 100 species, or view the animals underwater at the Lake District Coast Aquarium in Maryport (20 minutes) – a grand way to spend time if rainclouds are gathering. Still pouring? Dive below ground for tours at Honister Slate Mine (35 minutes), where visitors traverse the terrain on vertical climbs, rope-bridge walkways and steel ladders while learning about the 450-million-year-old volcanic slate. Back in the open air, the Laal Ratty (Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, 45 minutes away from the site) will have you chugging along a vintage steam train from the coastal village of Ravenglass to 210ft above sea level at Dalegarth.
