  • Peaceful, off-grid camping in a secluded Cumbrian flower meadow
  • A 10-minute drive from Carlisle and 35 minutes to Hadrian’s Wall
  • Real ale pub and shops close by; easy journey to beaches and lakes
Cargo Camping is located on a 3.5-acre flower meadow, near the village of Cargo in Cumbria. It’s in pole position for guests who’d like to explore the glorious countryside of the north-west from the Lakes to the Pennines and the Scottish Borders. This is off-grid camping, with basic facilities on the grass pitches including portable toilets, a water supply with three taps around the site, and easy access to the camping field from a farm track. You’re welcome to bring your canine chums – as long as they are under control at all times – and firepits and barbecues are allowed (but no ground fires please) – remember to bring all your own gear. On that note, there’s also car parking next to the pitches, so you won’t have to do too much fetching and carrying. It’s best to head for Carlisle (10 minutes’ drive) for major shopping expeditions (there’s a 12th-century castle and a couple of museums there that are well worth taking a look at too), but the camping field is five minutes from Rockcliffe village, where there is a pub serving real ales and scrummy burgers or roasts in front of a roaring fire.
